The purpose of a "free" education is so that everyone has "equal opportunity". Which is an AMERICAN value! Somethings are done for the greater good, because as a society we ALL benefit from having educated citizens. The sad truth is that some people that have greatly impacted our country would not have been able to go to school if their parents had to pay for it. People with out children would still have to pay property tax, it would just go to some other fund. People need to move past the selfish, self-righteousness and get back to the WE the People attitude.

Are you saying when the immigrants started attending school American kids dropped out? And what happened to the GED?

What do you expect from Austin,Texas and Texas. It is 60 years backward there. The teachers there aren't any good.

Texas raises school age limit - UPI.com

AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- A new Texas law offers $30 per day, per student, funding for school districts that accept students who are over 21 but no older than 26.

The level of funding, which was previously only offered to school districts for students under the age of 21, is aimed at curbing the dropout rate in Texas, the Houston Chronicle reported Friday.

"There are a lot of kids that leave, for good or bad reason, during their teenage years and then realize as young adults that they really need that diploma," state Rep. Scott Hochberg, D-Houston, who sponsored the legislatio, told the newspaper. "It's really all about the person who wants to come back to school."

Blaming the Hispanics sounds a bit cold and insensitive.

That is a very hateful way of looking at things. How are you so sure the students don't want to learn. And why should they starve? Maybe their teachers are discriminating against them, maybe they have a relative that has cancer, or they have a lack of resources. There are other factors involved. I am shocked by the hate.

I am sick of this stuff with some of the minorities that just don't believe in education and then moan and groan because they can't find a decent job and want the minimum wage raised so they can live on it.

Yes I agree. Groupthink and collectivism is the very best. Forget about individualism, that is useless.

If someone is unable to learn, he deserves to starve to death? What a loathsome attitude. I'm sorry, but I have to echo the response that another poster gave you: You must be a Republican.

I don't see a problem either. If you work effectively and reliably. Then you should get a raise.

Yes it is loathsome. But I wouldn't type cast this person as a republican because many democrats are loathsome too.
