Bush Moves To Close Door On Web Gambling, White House Working To Finish Regulations Enforcing Law Against Internet Gambling - CBS News

Quote:
The Bush administration is moving in its last weeks to complete regulations to enforce a controversial law that seeks to block Internet gambling.
I actually think the original internet gambling ban from 2006 helped the GOP lose control of the Senate during the mid-term elections. Conrad Burns of Montana, who had previously spoken out in favor of the ban, lost quite a bit of support from libertarian-leaners as a result, and then narrowly lost to Jon Tester.

I'm really not sure why the GOP keeps going down this road. Why the focus on internet gambling, and why now?

It has something to do with taxes and minors gambling.

It should have been done long time ago and BOTH parties agree about doing something about it.

Ottomobeale is right.

For the Republicans, they can simultaneously appease their moralist base while appeasing the casinos. Ironic, huh?
