I did not vote for Mr. Obama , but it seems to me that his staff is making a good faith attempt to avoid embarassing surprises.
The questions are not excessive compared those asked in other fields.
Two examples:
Special Background Investigation for access to some higher classified info.
Maine Game Warden: Those who made it to the last 3% or so of the applicants will know what I mean.
Some of the gun questions are quite naive. More ridiculous than dangerous.
Registration? Most ( OK--almost all) states don't waste money and resources on firearms registration. All but a very few states prefer more effective public safety and crime prevention measures.
The NFA of 1934 requires registration of only a very few firearms like machine guns and short barreled shotguns and rifles.
Imagine righteous young staffers from Boston , Chicago , and San Francisco interviewing people from the rest of America.
The gun questions should produce some comical teachable moments.
