Yes, despite Obama's historic triumph intolerance is still manifested throughout our society.

FYI: I'm speaking of intolerance from any side, although these are all examples of intolerance from the left. I would welcome evidence of recent intolerance from the right to make the point as well, but frankly I see less of it in the news.

The fundamental problem is the assumption that it's appropriate to be intolerant of those who are supposedly wrong. This may work fine when considering murder and rape, as it would be difficult to argue in favor of tolerance of murder and rape under any circumstance. Yet these are extreme cases. On the other hand, when the very definition of "bigotry" is in question, bigotry towards people exhibiting supposed bigotry is fatally flawed in circular logic. It's time to take a step back and realize that our own opinions are limited to the understanding and knowledge confined to our individual paradigms. Instead of building a wall to protect that paradigm--and incidentally isolating ourselves from others outside our own groupthink--we should actively try to expand our universe of understanding with limited preconceived prejudices. Yes, this means stepping outside of your comfort zone.

Historically, America has prospered when it behaved as the proverbial melting pot and floundered as it became divided. I ask each and every one of you to consider your attitude towards opposing viewpoints, whether they be liberal, conservative, or in between. Put yourself in your opponent's shoes, and consider that we are all humans worthy of not just fairness, but also kindness.

Oh good Lord..... opposing parties have been doing this since day one of when elections began in the United States. All of a sudden anyone who didn't vote for Obama is racist and has no tolerance. Give it a rest already. Republicans don't like Democrats regardless of their skin color. OK????

I'm not some hardcore Christian at all but our nation is founded under God.

Ephesians 4:32
Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

I would rather have the brown skin Bobby Jindal come over my house for dinner than Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid who would not be welcomed in my home.

lots of name calling. when you call people on their stuff they name call.
long term tolerance is bad. it blurrs your sense of principle. mercy is good.
i think as a people we have been stretched pretty far.
we are losing our cohesiveness. pluralism is not working.

Give it time, even those things will not deter a crowd from their demands. Rape and murder will be justified to those who revel in immorality, they will cling to it, embrace it and commit these acts as if they were as dutiful as opening a door as the courteous. Don't be surprised though that those who perpetuate such acts will also be those who have proclaimed to abhor them.

Looking at the last decades and the political activism I think you can expect for Obama to be met witrh just the same problems Bush has had. I mean calling Bush hiltler was pretty frequent. Just look at the Democratic primary; we saw charges of racism on both clintons and Obama side.Actually IMO it was worse in the primary than the general election by the campaigns themselves. Most people had never seen anyone other than the KKK make racial hate speech as the REv WQright did. No one had ever hear speech describing a sate as full of peole cling tot heir guns and religion or what it implied.

Not hardcore? Lets try not at all? Or does your own words lie?

I find it funny you quote scripture when you have nothing but complete disdain for it.

Then again, maybe that is evidence of the forked tongue you speak with?
