While some conservative views are valid, Republican views never are, because any good views they might have are hypocritical.

The GOP has an agenda to turn America into a Christian state. Bush and Palin have both said "God sent us to war". If that isn't a theocratic statement, what is?

John McCain, who I once considered one of the few good Republicans, became as bad as Bush by picking Palin. The Republican Party wants to turn America into an oligarchy, led by the oil companies who will be backed morally by their righteous opposition of abortion.

The Bush administration of the past 8 years has shown the true colors of the Republican Party. Bush-bashing, once something that would make you unpopular in 2003, is now almost as popular with conservatives as it is with liberals.

While I really hesitate voting GOP at the national level right now, I have no problem voting Republican at the state level, especially as our state's Democratic party is nothing short of incompetent. If I'm still in MI in 2010, I'll vote GOP for governor, and the statehouse.

You think maybe, just maybe, that it might be because President Bush wasn't in the least bit a conservative? Nothing about our Goverment is conservative. I have a hunch this will be changing in a HUGE way in 2/4 years.

I have to agree. If the election of Obama serves to return the Republican party to true conservatism (with a healthy dose of libertarianism for good measure), this election could be the best thing to happen to this country in 20 years. If, however, we see the enactment of a sweeping socialist agenda, it could be the beginning of the end. Only time will tell.

Does it seem strange to anyone else that the Democrats used to be the hawks?

Our founding fathers Made separation of church and state for a reason. We must protect those freedoms. I will never vote for any group that does not believe in that and wants to turn us into a Theocracy.

I agree, but there are very few in the GOP that actually are conservatives anymore. Who will be able to step up within that time frame? Whoever does will likely face a lot of internal resistance.

I do tend to slightly agree with the OP with regards to religion. While embracing the evangelical vote might have been wise 8, or even 4, years ago, even the majority of evangelicals have evolved to realize the importance of issues like climate change. The GOP hasn't been dynamic enough to adapt to the real concerns.

What conservative can look back on the policies of this administration and the congress it held for 6 years and agree with their fiscal policies? I'm not a psychic but I will go out on a limb and guess that the GOP will try to refocus without any real conviction in 2010 and lose again. The path that they are on seems to be more one of trying to figure out how to get elected then one of trying to figure out how to solve the serious problems.

Sweeping socialist agenda aka raising the taxes on the rich from 36% to 39%.

Yeah, that does seem to be the definition of a "socialist" for some people. It's preposterous. Most of them don't know even what the word "socialism" means.
