Oh my, this is actually giving me a good chuckle. Try it, and you'll see. Picture Janet Reno suddenly going "ditzy and adorable" and saying "you betcha" and "nuke-yoolar". Picture the flirty Reno wink! Picture Reno talking about seeing Russia from her house, or being unable to name a newspaper. She would be an embarrassment, that's for sure.

I don't know if it would make people hate her--that seems like an overstatement--but it would definitely make people want to mock her. That's what happens when you act folksy and stupid.
In some parts of the country people actually believe: "folksy" = "stupid."
Who is really stupid?

Not to mention the vicious but effective smears against her, which thankfully have been shown false. Smears are all too common in this country; there use is a lie, and they do work. There was man running for office whose stand on a particular issue was sneered at and bombarded with half-truths and utter lies. He lost because of that.

And, some people automatically jump to conclusions about the motives of others. Fore example, when Palin was chosen to run as McCain's VP, there was an immediate knee-jerk reaction that she was chosen ONLY to win votes from women. I have a strong hunch it had to do with her looks, as well.

Wow. I feel so much better now. Here I was thinking that she was chosen for VP solely to garner women's votes. But maybe she was chosen because of her looks too. Now it all makes perfect sense. How could I have so underestimated her value?

She was on a lot of lists for consideration. I believe what sealed it for McCain was that her maverick attitude. He felt a kinship with her for that.

If he had only known just HOW mavericky she was he would've begged Rove to just say "No"!

Seeing as how liberal women are the snottiest and most stuck up living organisms I have ever encountered, I would say that the reaction from liberal women on this board is mild at best effectively proving your hurtful truth jmarquise... well done sir!

I have been living with and around women, liberal and conservative, for 60 some years. I would not dare (I have dared a lot in this life) to presume I understood the way women think. I have enough trouble understanding how I think.

Does it matter? Politics is all about perception. A genuinely smart politician would have recognized this tendency and overcome it by giving numerous interviews demonstrating the depth of her real knowledge. From the moment she answered a simple question by saying "Well, I'm just gonna havta get right back to ya" she lost most of her credibility. It went downhill from there.

She certainly had her own mind and opinions. I thought that was refreshing, as opposed to someone who would be in lock-step with the presidential hopeful.
