BAD for them and their profits.

BTW. YOU ARE PAYING for others healthcare in passed on cost for bills that never get paid by people who a) couldn't afford insurance and b) couldn't afford the bills when they got sick (and that includes some that actualyl DID have insurance. You're also paying for "free" healthcare for those that are on medicaid!!!

Thereis nothing FREE about a UHI.. DUH.. you pay for it through your taxes.. and in the end it would be much cheaper than paying your monthly premium..

Keep believing in the fear they want you to buy into ..they pay a lot of money to make the citizens of this country fear a UHI so that they can keep raping the rest of us for their profits
From insurance companies handling everything... now the government... I feel so assured. I have an idea... when you break your damn leg show up to the hospital with a wad of cash in your hand.

The problem is litigation. Awards in the tens of millions for a single malpractice case force both hospitals and insurance companies to raise their prices.

Cap the awards and get rid of the restrictions keeping the insurance companies from selling policies across state lines, and you'll see healthcare prices drop dramatically.

I'm ridiculously lucky to now have a Blue Cross 100% HMO that I only pay $40 a month for. The past 6 years? No insurance but COBRA and HIPAA (Around $600 a month for just me, a single female). I've been through a lot of crap for my insurance previously and I can understand, Tristansmommy, how difficult getting proper insurance is. Not too long ago, I had a PICC line in my arm for some IV treatments I was getting. I'm supposed to get dressing changes done every week or there's a huge risk of infection, and since the line goes directly into your heart, you don't want infections. The insurance company was not cooperating, and since a friend of mine is an RN, I bought the supplies and she did the change for me when it was needed just once. Insurance found out, and now they're back billing me for the past 7 months of dressing changes since I 'violated their patient policy' by using an outside source. Since they were dilly daddling getting me a home health nurse, and wouldn't let me go to a regular doctor or nurse, I took my health into my own hands and did what had to be done. Now, I'm being punished. Screw insurance companies.

That is the big difference in the 2 systems . Obamas plan does not stop us from keeping our insurance it helps those who dont have it
I have some friends in England, and they had to 5 YEARS for a hearing aid! This is beyond my comprehension.

I understand that the health insurance in Canada is great as long as you're healthy. Then it becomes frustrating once there's a chronic or disabling illness.

Touche'!. And one of the things that infuriates me are how liberal America is with frivlous lawsuits. The repercussions affects all of us.

It's for a supplemental purpose.

Excuse me? The company gave her the wrong information. Now there is on solution for her because the healthcare system in this country is awful. She is an intelligent woman who has thought about this issue a lot. If she fell in to this trap how easy would it be for people of average intelligence or less?

We went through insurance hell doing the same kind of move. Thousands of dollars later we are finally on new insurance through my husbands work. $500 plus a month in premiums. Plus here is a sample doctors visit. My husband had to see a specialist... $30 co-pay plus 2 prescriptions at $20 a piece. $70 is a huge expense for our middle income 7 person family.

I'm thrilled to be insured but even those who have insurance can get hit hard these days. I know people who skip doctors visits they should go to because of the co-pays. When they don't get preventive care or early intervention care we all end up paying.

In NY I was paying $856/month for insurance for myself and my son. Husband wasn't covered because we couldn't afford him. It would be over $1,000!!

When I moved I contacted an agent who told me I should sign up with Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield. Me on a guaranteed issue for $333/month and my hubby and son medically underwritten for around $220. Total cost montly around $550. EXCELLENT.

Sent me the application. I cancelled my insurance inNY and had the application so that when I get settled in I could sign up for myself under GUARANTEE issue. Did just that. I GOT REJECTED because I'm "out of their service area!!".. WTF!!! I am SO mad at the agent. I told him my address of where i was moving too and he directed me to them. Asi t was guaranteed issue it was a no brainer.. accept he had me in the WRONG COUNTY.. WRONG PLAN.

I'm dangerously approaching 90 days (on the 15th it will be 90 days) which means I loose coverage for a whole year for my condition!! ONLY insurance that offers a guaranteed issue in my county is BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIED OF NE PA .. but they want to charge me $500/month.. AND I can't enroll as a new member until Jan 1 which means that I will loose my coverage for my pre-existing condition. I can do a "transfer" frommy previous Blue Cross plan to the new one .. oh.. but hten I'd have to pay for Oct, Nov & Dec a check for $1500!! I then have a $1,000 major medical deductable and a $250 Shield deductable.

Why don't i just BEND OVER and lube up!!!

FREE MARKETS my ASS!! I only have 1 CHOICE!!! and extremely expensive RIDICULOUS CHOICE.. BUT if I lived inthe next county over I'd be paying $550/month for a great plan offere by Blue Cross / Blue Shield.. WHY?

I HATE health insurance companies.

I wish they would ALL FAIL and go to hell!!

Bring on a UHI.. .. my health insurance shouldnt' cost me the same or MORE than my rent..

And it shoulnd't equal a mortgage payment either..

GREEDY SOB'!s

I hope Obama's plan comes and comes quickly!!
You mentioned costs and pre-existing, they should be dealt with. However, Universal Health Care now is so awful in America I couldn't describe it without shock to all. Drs. treat immediate symptoms and don't if none at moment, many months waiting time for appointments, sick walk ins with many sick people waiting many hours, very few blood tests ordered by doctors even specialists. With very complicated disease you've got serious problems with assembly line in UHC where doctors have no time to throughly look at charts or listen to the patients. There needs to be "choice of doctors", many available doctors, "competition of doctors" and little beauracracy.

Yes eating healthy is great but it may not prevent cancer, a car hitting you and zillion other things.

I imagine most avoid injury no one looks for it lol . We have the money for health care being in Iraq all these years has shown the money is there if you need it.

Granted things are tight now but if the politicians had no health care till every citizen had it I gaurantee within days max we would have it .

Its to bad special interest owns them . We build hospitals over-seas with our tax money while closing them down here due to lack of funds
