The 'eye for an eye' reference you made was to the Old Testament, which was replaced by God's new covanent with mankind, with the birth of Jesus Christ. In Matthew 5:38, this very issue is discussed by Jesus:
I agree to turn the other cheek when struck or to give someone your belongings when robbed. I'm talking about murder here and although I would not retaliate by murdering someone who killed my loved one (well, then again, I might), I would expect the laws of the land to punish him the way that is fair which would be do give him a large dose of his own crime.
Or should we just continue to turn the criminals out on the streets to rape, murder, et al again? Yes, that's the better solution.
You betcha. You can think stupid all you want, but if it hadn't happened, Lord knows what shape our country would be in now regarding safety. Goodness, we have enough trouble from our crazy American neighbors; we don't need Al-Qaeda killing us off like flies.
What, pray tell, did the invasion of Iraq have to do with Al-Qaeda?
It's funny our self hating types attack us, yet Saddam was one the worst barbarians of the 20th century and definitely #1 in the late 20th century. Didn't see you guys screaming over Saddam's atrocities.
I sleep better at night knowing that thug is dead as well as his two depraved sons.
Sadaam became dangerous when America and many Western powers sold weapons to him. Bush Sr and Rumsfeld congratulated him when he used them on Iran. Sadaam then used them on the Kurds and Shiites when they tried to overthrow him following the Gulf War.
How hypocritical - to arm and use a 'barbarian' when it serves your interests, then dispose of him when he no longer does.
Rumsfeld was Bush 41s emissary to Iraq to meet with Saddam to sell him weapons. There is a photograph easily found on the internet showing Rumsfeld and Saddam shaking hands.
Saddam was not a threat at that point, apparently.
If an evil person calling himself a christian broke into your house, killed a couple of your family members and carried off a couple fo your children and the next day you caught up to him. When you asked him where your children were and he wouldn't tell you, what would you do? Offer him some shmores?
You can call yourself anything you wish and do anything you want. You can rape, murder, torture, separate mothers from their children, beat your enemies black and blue, stick knives in them, skin them alive, or whatever you choose.
Your actions, however, will negate any claim you might make to be acting in the Name of the Prince Of Peace who said "Love your enemies. Do good to those that hate you."
I can stand in a garage and call myself a Buick, but if I can't hit the road and run 55 mph it's pretty obvious that I am deluded if not intentionally misleading. I cannot answer for anyone else who says thay are Christians, but I can ask them to reexamine the teachings of the One they claim to follow and search for justification for violent acts performed in His Name. I'm willing to bet they will never find said justification.
An intruder came into my home - and put a gun to the head of my wife (with my child nearby). He was going to kill her (turned out he was hi on crack).
I shot, and killed, this intruder.
Was I wrong to do so? He was my enemy and, I did not "turn the other cheek".
I cannot answer that for you.
I can tell you that I would have done the same thing you did, and would not have acted as a Christian in doing so.
I can also tell you that I would never have invaded Iraq, which was no possible threat to the U.S. Even if the WMD had existed, Iraq had no delivery system that would have moved them over 3-400 miles from the spot they were launched.
I can tell you that I would have had every available troop directed to Afgahanistan to comb the mountains on foot to find Bin Laden if necessary. We had not only the moral authority but the backing of the world to do so, not to become an agressor nation and attack what was essentially an unarmed country, killing thousands and driving literally millions from their home and beyond Iraq's borders.
I can't answer for George W. Bush. I can tell you that I'm glad I don't have to.
What, pray tell, did the invasion of Iraq have to do with Al-Qaeda?
Grant it, we should have taken out Al-Qaeda in Iraq before the attack and the invasion, but unfortunately, that didn't happen. Better late than never, I guess.
