**The average American voter is as dumb as a turkey dropping.**
And,apparently, the average American Politician is even DUMBER.

"People may be listening to television experts talk about economic bailouts and the platforms of political candidates, but they apparently have little idea what our basic economic and political institutions are," said Dr. Richard Brake, ISI's director of University Stewardship. "Our study raises significant questions about whether citizens who voted in this year's landmark presidential election really understand how our system of representative democracy works."

Even those giving the test have no idea what our country is since it is a Representative REPUBLIC and not a representative Democracy.

Take the test here

The site presently indicates that the average score both for Nov 20 and the month of November as a whole is 77.2%. That would be 25 or 26 questions correct out of 33. I don't think that's so bad. Many of the questions are gimme's, but there are at least 7 or 8 that are not. One could always guess correctly, but actually knowing the answers to those would have required more than a layman's passing knowledge of history, economics, philosophy, or what have you.

In looking at reported results of around 50% correct, it should be remembered that the poll was done over the telephone. People did not have hard copy in front of them to review, and they did not volunteer to take the test, they merely agreed to do so when asked. The full survey was 118 questions, not just these 33. Interviews in which the respondent physically hung up before completing the survey were thrown out. Those who hung up mentally and started throwing out answers just so as to get through the thing were not.

Nobody needed to have a hard copy. One either knows the answers or they don't. Simple really.

So, how many did you miss? I got three wrong myself. It proved what many of knew all along and that would be that a huge portion of the populace, and this would include the idiot politicians, know very little about our how our government works or about the history of this country.

Well, I'm embarrassed to admit that I got 57.58%...but hey, according to their home page, that's higher than a college-educated person! Yay me!

I think you're picking nits here - a republic is a democratic form of government.

If you want to get REALLY technical, our form of government is a Constitution based federal republic.

Missed 3. Good quiz.

But Karfar, you are exactly the issue. Our government depended on learned people voting for the appropriate congress and president. I am happy you did better than most, but our entire nation is in doubt now because so many people had no clue about the candidates and how they will act on our behalves.

btw: I unbelievably missed only 2, and both were missed because I didn't take time to read and think.

I encourage all Americans to get an understanding of market forces how socialism works and why free markets are best for America 95% of the time.

.

That's completely untrue. To prove it, try "watching" Jeopardy while sitting with you back to the TV and see how much harder it is if you can't read the questions.

-----------

People do not vote in this country because they know what will be the best diplomatic strategy for reaching accord in Nepal.. They vote for people whom they trust to apply common sense to the resolutions of issues as they arise, with certain philosophical routes and objectives in mind. This can be done without being able to find countries on a map, or identifying Constitutional Amendments by number.
