We need more accountability. One reason I'm concerned about health care run by the government is that there isn't much oversight. I wouldn't be surprised if there are millions of people who are "lost in the system" taking advantage of programs that have poor follow-up. On the one hand, I don't want too many regulations, but I do agree with Obama that there are some areas in which we need to have a more watchful eye in order to avoid fraud and abuse.
I posted this because I came across this article on Medicaid waste today, although $200 million isn't a lot of money in the overall scope of things.

No one is talking about the government running the health care system. Even with medicaid/medicare, the care is provided by private practitioners, for the most part. There is plenty of oversight. I have worked for medicare-certified home health agencies and they require way more documentation and proof of everything than the pvt insurance companies.

INsurance fraud exists no matter who's running it. It exists with phony car accidents or overstated estimates. Most of the scams against Medicaid/Medicare that are fraudulent take place withthe Dr's offices billing for more services or services never rendered with a patent they splity the "profit" with. It's a scheme or scam and those people are criminals and will always scam any system.
I the end just because there is a program of insurance does not measn that doctors have to accept those patints. It may endup like medicare where more and more doctors wil not accept medicare patients. That's the problem in that the governamnt does not own any civilian hospitals or other medical facilities.Fraud is rampant in all government programs. In fact one of teh problems in medicare is that the governamnt does not even run the billing system.

The federal govt. doesn't own any civilian hospitals or other facitlities, but cities, counties and states do. Ex: Denver Health; University of Colorado Hospital; Cook County Hospital; LA County Hospital, etc. Most medicare billing is done through Blue Cross/Blue Shield.
Obviously you (a) are one of the lucky people who get health care at work or (b) are on Medicaid (c) are a Medicare recipient or (d) have never been seriously ill and can't get coverage.
For the 47 million+ people who are not insured or are under-insured
Of those 47 million, how many could buy it and just choose not to? I bet it's a huge chunk. It' s a huge chunk of the uninsured I know, and I come across a lot of uninsured people in my line of work.
You guys think that the doctors in this country are all of a sudden going to stop taking copays or take reduced copays and then hope and wait for that money to come from the government??? Ha.
There is a movement by some physicians, from all areas of the country, to stop taking insurance all together - and require their patients to pay "cash".
Also, many new, small clinics, are opening around the country, including airports, where, if you have a problem, for $30/40 you can see a Doctor, get checked out, get a script (if needed) - no appointment necessary!
