Lot of whining here about the humiliating smack-down Obumma and his base took over this.
It was a lost cause from the beginning, but that never seems to sink in to these low information types.

I'm sorry, I just can't agree with you.

A quick article:

Why Gun Makers Fear the NRA - Businessweek

I can think of numerous instances through the years where manufacturers made gun control noises, and the NRA immediately jumped on them. Manufacturers make up something like 10% of NRA advertising revenue, and aren't the majority donors to it's operations.

Although the gun makers definitely have some push in the game, I think that this notion that they run the NRA is just a useful meme along the lines of Koch-hate, the latter attempting to personify evil libertarian/conservative donors who actually are waaaay down the list of election backers in terms of $$$$.

It makes for a tidy little story, though.

except for certain parts of the NRA, the NRA is the largest gun control group in the USA. so little do you know. if not for the NRA, we would not even have the NICS check.

Someones been reading from the website NRAwol, haven't they? You probably belong to NAGR or GoA or both and think the NRA is too liberal, huh?

NRA has had it's blunders, it doesn't always act right. After all, they attempted and nearly succeeded in derailing the Heller case. But there's a reason why the NRA weilds so much power and influence in politics while the other "conservative alternatives" are relegated to watching from the sidelines..... they know how to play the game. You've got to be able to play the game to win it in the first place. The no-holds-barred strategy of those other groups are exactly why they aren't well known. It's all about strategy, and the NRA knows how to strategize and eventually win.

Hmmm..... "Obama is an Enemy of your gun rights"...... .... help me understand the error in that.

There you have it. They certainly aren't fools.

The main take away here is that small (relatively) organizations that have a single minded approach to getting what they want can hit way above their weight class. The NRA is not different from an education or law enforcement union or car dealers in terms of the ability to concentrate on a goal.
