Do you still see discrimination against Hispanics? Do hear comments or prejudice discussions that go on behind the backs of Hispanics within your family or in work situations or in Universities? Have you seen any other examples of discrimination against Hispanics?

Ok, I'll bite. I think this thread is a little ridiculous considering we all know hispanics are discrimated against. I hear something at least once a week, a lot of discriminatory things that I've heard came from someone I used to be friends with. So tell me, why this & the other two threads? I'm starting to wonder what your agenda is.

Agenda? You seem suspicious.

This is to have an open forum on discrimination against minorities and what you see and hear.

I've heard people say the word "****" referring to a Hispanic person. I was pretty shocked to hear that from a "liberal".

Ok, so you don't have an agenda, I was just curious. I've heard probably all the crappy **** you can hear about hispanics & quite frankly, I choose to stay away from people who do that.

We don't see much of it around here, but it definitely still exists, even when people don't intend to insult. An example... my roommate is 1/2 Mexican, but born & raised in the US, and doesn't speak a word of Spanish (aside from what everyone knows). She went to the hospital recently for a minor issue, and the doctor came in and started speaking Spanish to her - in a condescending tone, nonetheless, and added some social services questions without prompting.

So while I'm sure the doctor didn't mean any harm, of course it was slightly offensive to my roommate... luckily she has a good sense of humor, and responded by saying "No Nintendo escargot," her standard response when people speak Spanish to her. Ironically I do speak Spanish almost fluently, and I'm a redheaded white girl! Just goes to show you can't judge on appearances, huh?

I imagine that Hispanics face discrimination probably much more outside the southwest. But you also got quite a few bigoted Hispanics too. We're having major problems here in Los Angeles between blacks and hispanics all the time at the schools. Of course this problem has been going on for a good 30 years.
