Would you also prohibit, say the President of the United States, when acting in that capacity, from ending speeches etc with the phrase "and may God Bless America"?
Yes, there should be no mention of god in government. If people want god they can go to church.

If I thought I could I would but they are forced to say it whether they believe it or not...they have to appeal to the MASSES.
"God" does not belong in government or politics. Yes, I know we get it shoved down our throats but that doesn't make it right.
This is not a christian nation therefore it needs to be taken off everything.
A great majority of Americans are religious, and since God by itself does not refer to a Christian God, I see nothing wrong with God in the Pledge. In fact, I am foreign born American, and hope that The Pledge will always be the way it has been.
I have a better idea, just remove the pledge altogether.
It is a meaningless and thus non-binding gesticulation born out of naive belief by a socialist pastor that the pledge would promote solidarity amongst American youth but which has instead turned into a McCarthyite test of false patriotism.
Yes majority are, but who is to say the majority believe in or pray to god? they could be islamic or some other faith that prays to someone else. Also that small majority is very large, should they not get a voice in things?
I see you forgot the rest of my post where I explain
"""And I don't care if "god" is in it or not...although if "god' existed he'd probaly opt out....and opt out of prayers before car races and sporting events...how insulting for him!!!
I recited(mumbled) it as a child in grade school, it meant nothing to me then and less now.
Why would an American citizen have to "pledge" their loyalty or whatever it is they're pledging??
Do American adults get up each morning , face the flag , and recite the "pledge"?"""
Do you????
The National Anthem does not require any pledging by people who are CITIZENS....
