As I read more threads, I believe VT is by far the most liberal. But Everyone is Saying how liberal the state they are moving from is so. Just to get an Idea of what states that used to be conservative are becoming liberal how do they rank. And if your state isn't here how liberal has it become?

Default Least liberal

Alabama.

Darwin-style economics + social puritanism.

Far-right organizations are strong enough here to convince most of the populace that every significant legislative action or reform is really just a back-handed attempt to raise (the nation's lowest) taxes.

I would go with Rhode Island based more on image.

As far as social liberalism probubly Arizona they are the only state that hasnt passed a gay marriage ban. Interestingly enough after the last election if you saw how South Dakota voted (not the legislature) they are a fairly socially liberal state also. the gay marriage ban passed, but by an extremely low margin in the eastern part of the state.

As far as fiscal liberalism I would say in the past probubly Minnesota or Iowa. Both states have a reputation of having very progressive tax structures and large and extensive safety-nets, but that has been weakening in both states
But I dont think that any true fiscally liberal state exists anymore.

I noticed Colorado up there, Colorado is basically both extremes on social issues overall moderate. The northern front range and mountain resorts are socially liberal and the Colorado Springs are and South-East Colorado is very socially conservative.

Colorado though probubly is the most fiscally conservative state in the nation though.

I couldn't fit all 50 so I had to choose a few. That is why I stated if I missed your state to speak up. lol. And yes I know some states here are not normally liberal. But are they changing as it has been years sense I have been to many of them.

The most conspicuous absence on this list of states would be New York.

Why isn't New Jersey on this list? I doubt it's the MOST liberal, but it's up there. We have some of the most socially liberal laws of anywhere in the country.

Whoever said that Arizona is the only state that hasn't passed a gay marriage ban- where did you get that information from? Massachusetts allows it, and New Jersey I'm sure will be within a couple of years, as they already grant gay couples all the legal rights of married couples.

At any rate, NJ is certainly far more liberal overall than places like Colorado, Nevada, and Virginia (Virginia?).
