You're right, Christianity has survived for 2000 years, but not because it has resisted attempts at subjugation, but because it has evolved. More so than any other religion, Christianity has excelled at taking successful ideas from other ideologies and incorporating them into its own, and then presenting them to the world as Christian ideas. This is best exemplified by the Jesus myth itself. The story of Jesus is an amalgamation of middle-eastern and Asian hero-myths that existed around 1st century Rome. There is nothing at all unique about the "life" of Jesus, his narrative is a collection of other narratives.

Can you prove that? Got any good sources for it, or are you just spouting off?

I've got a Bible with 4 accounts of his ministry. They were all written within about 30 years after he died. The book of Acts is also a continuation of one of them, detailing the expansion of the church into the surrounding areas.

To make the suggestions you make is really just ignorance of the facts. But there will always be people like you stating that because they just don't care to look at the truth.

This sentence is a great example of the disconnect between religion and reality that I spoke of earlier. Here, the poster has jettisoned reason and common sense in favor of a fantasy that attempts to paper over real life experience and worldly engagement, by portraying "reality" as "either/or;" "this/that"; "us/them"; or putting it another way: "Dar al Islam or Dar al Harb"(house of Islam or house of the unbeliever). You see, fundamentalist Christians really do think just like the Taliban. The more they protest, the more they prove that they do.

Also, there can be nothing more narcissistic than believing that a god would lower himself before you and then die a lowly death just for you.

Have you ever heard of the Christian Gnostics? Ever read any of their holy writings?

I've read the "gospel" of thomas.

I've done enough research to know that the gnostics were written a couple hundred years after Christ. The 4 canonical ones were written within 30 years or so.

You really should do some research before you speak.

So you're basically making the claim that because some of the ancient myths had similar characters Christianity "invented" a Christ that was like that..

lol..ok. Whatever helps you sleep at night.

Now, give me some original manuscripts from those religions documenting those beliefs. Really...come up with something new...something that is believable.

Why should I want to do that? This argument works so well. I mean, after all, you have no defense against it. Christianity is at heart nothing more than a pagan religion. Who owes it continued existence to its ability to evolve and replicate itself. Just like a virus.
