I just checked CNN and the deal is close but no cigar (yet). The closest to American I've gotten are my 2 Saabs.

I'll start buying American when they stop making pieces of junk that fall apart after 3 years....

Last American car I bought was a 1984 Lemans - absolute GARBAGE - and the dealer was totally unsympathetic to my dilemna.

Well, I had a number of lemons with American makes...

Now all I buy are Toyota and Honda - and they are so much higher in quality than the American brands it isn't even funny.

The American brands have a $1400/car labor cost disadvantage against the Japanese models.... Guess how they make up the difference???

Cheap parts that don't show on the showroom floor...

Just did, but not because of the bail out and I'm sure the whole thing isn't "Made in America".

BUT the last car, AMERICAN made, had 160,000 on it, running really well and looking good! NO major problems ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The bailout has not gone through.

And no, I will not buy American right now. If the American automakers repay their debt and use this bailout to straighten out their horrible business practices, I will consider an American car. But if they remain subpar to foreign cars, I will not buy one.

My last American car was a 1998 mustang. By the time it had 40K miles on it knobs were falling off, the driver's seat broke and is sputtered a bit. It was purchased new and was a piece of crap.

We love our GMC Acadia. We also love our Chevy 1-ton Dually 4x4. Don't need another vehicle but when we do, it will be American, at least as American as the vehicles can be considering the parts and all.

Our two vehicles have been very reliable. Never any problems yet. The truck is a 2004 and the Acadia is a 2007.

I won't buy a big three car as long as lug nut twisters are making three times as much as an aircraft mechanic.
