Be it Israel or EVERY other country the aid and FREE military hardware is killing us financially.
Bull. It's not even a drop in the bucket financially. All the foreign aid we give combined is dwarfed by almost any other item in the budget.
Israeli aid is a threat to us strategically, politically and diplomatically because they are fighting (1) a bad cause, (2) a globally unpopular cause and (3) over the long run, a losing cause. The financial bottom line is not the problem here, not even close.

If the United States was even half as dedicated to fighting terrorism as Israel, Al Qaeda would've been wiped out years ago. And you want to cast off our only genuine ally in the Middle East, into the bargain? I'm glad your name wasn't on my ballot last month.

So an ally is someone you just pour taxpayer money into unconditionally? What about someone you share intelligence with and leave it at that?
But, if you want to support socialism for the socialist utopia of Israel, be my guest...socialist!
I think you have addressed the real issue: If somebody that lives here wants to contribute to the welfare of some other parasitic cause, they should have the right to do it out of their own pocket! But to take from all Americans due to screwed up foreign policy is just wrong.

Don't you think that the US might have more allies there if it distanced itself from Israel? Remember that Israel doesn't have a perfect track record (Jonathan Pollard spying).

It's not "into the bargain." Our one-sided friendship (NOT "alliance"; we have no defense treaty with Israel) is the CAUSE of our terrorism problem. Leave it to the Israelis to give you a headache and then sell you the aspirin.

I don't doubt that we would have more countries acting, shall we say, friendlier towards us if we distanced ourselves from Israel. But...which countries would they be? And would we really be better off sliding into bed with any of them? (Some of the allies we already have aren't that great to begin with. Our good and dear friend, France, has never repaid us for bailing them out of not one, but two world wars. If it wasn't for the American army they have so little respect for, they'd be speaking German these days!)
And as far as giving money to Israel--the gist of this thread rather ignores the fact that we pour billions of dollars into plenty of other countries. Some people just have a particular problem with Israel, that's all.
As to ViewFromthePeak, who labels me a socialist (which I am not), hey, guess what? I have no problems with the United States, and I'm not going anywhere. If you believe this country has gone so far down the drain, then you may feel free to leave any time. I promise not to restrain you at the border against your will.
The Bible says God will bless any nation that supports Israel but will curse any nation that goes against her. You only have to look in the history books to see how this plays out. If America turns its back on Israel, I fear God may give this country what it has deserved for a long time, and it won't be pretty.
Really???? Hmmm Looks like we got blessed big time on 911.
Looks like we were blessed back in 68 when Israel attacked one of our ships.
Looks like we were further blessed when those sailors died on the Cole.
The blessings were rolling when our marines were killed in Beruit.
And now we have been truly blessed with a recession.
That or god just isn't paying attention these days.
Seems to me Gods chosen people are less than grateful for all we do for them. They certainly enjoy putting us in one difficult situation after another.
I for one am tired of playing the worlds sugar daddy.
