Ga. lawmaker's plan to save money fuels debate about role of schools
ATLANTA - Public colleges created during segregation to provide blacks an education denied to them by white institutions are at the center of a budget battle brewing in Georgia.
Well they aren't segregated in the sense that any of the campuses don't have integrated student bodies. But many years ago when I worked in Washington for an education lobby I got in a lot of hot water for being reluctant to support the maintenance of publicly funded historically black colleges and universities. Now that I don't work for them, I can be more vocal about opposing their maintenance unless they are uniquely situated either for academic reasons or geographic location. Unfortunately for most of them, they were built within short distance of larger white institutions. Private black colleges and universities can fill the role in the market for students who desire a more afro-centric educational environment.

What is an 'afro-centric' educational environment?
One that focuses more on the enormous contributions that Black-Africans and Africa has given to the world in the fields of science, technology, literature and invention? lol.

whats so lol about that mr confederate? you are half incorrect these institutions teach the same as other schools its just that these colleges are mostly black and have a historical context in which they still stand today which is why they are called historical black colleges and universities.
HBCU'S are diverse, Culturally, Nationally(Americans, Jamaicans, etc) and ethnically( african american, latino etc mainly black ones. various HBCU'S have whites attending
And my comment was sarcastic because of the lack of Africa contributing anything to the world in the field of science or technology. Compared to the millions upon millions of achievement and invention from peoples of other areas and cultures.
This is why white folks could benefit from an afro-centric education. It would keep them from writing ignorant comments like:

Well if people really care so much about them being merged, they'll put their money up to stop them from being merged.
I'm sure the KKK would like to donate to the fund,"keep the races separate."
