Why is this even an issue? He's spending his own hard earned cash to rent that house, Palin could also afford to rent at a place like that if she wasn't so busy going on a spending spree at Neiman Marcus.

You should clarify: Conservative uproar. Liberals would be too busy laughing to get upset.

You should clarify, Republican uproar as a real conservative would just be happy they spent their own money here in America instead of the Riviera.

The real issue is one of perceptions. While I could care less that Obama did this or that Congress gets a raise in the middle of an economic melt down, it is still a poor example to offer up. When times are tough among the people there are few things that get folks more ticked off than to see their elected officials living it up high on the hog, even if they are using their own money. Ask Marie Antoinette.

Again, I could personally care less how anyone spends their own money, if you got it then do with it as you will. However, if you are in a high profile position such as a public office holder and you are even spending your own money, then don't expect people looking at a stack of bills or packing up to leave their foreclosed home to be too thrilled.

If anything, it is just one more example among countless examples of how disconnected Washington is from the people they govern. Now hand me some cake.

Nobody seemed to get in a dither over Washington living at Mt. Vernon, or Jefferson at Monticello, and those were hardly the typical digs of the day. Lincoln spent much of the Civil War at his "cottage" in the DC countryside. More recently, you've got places like Warm Springs, Hyannisport, San Clemente, Santa Barbara, Kennebunkport. I haven't read that much about people of those various days being angered or resentful to any great degree, and the Presidents involved were leading an America faced with some tough times themselves. So, where is Obama (not even sworn in yet) actually supposed to go?

Did the Obamas try to pull off an "average joe" persona, or did they portray themselves as two Harvard-educated successful lawyers?

I think you know the answer to those questions, but you just couldn't resist swinging and missing.

Don't you mean 2 harvard educated non successful, smooth talking, presidential looking, fraudulient corrupt thieves? this is truth..
