This opinion is held by either :

a) americans who think too highly of themselves to think they are breaking down cultures which are 100's if not 1,000's of years old. As if those people in the culture are being held at gun point, or that local alternatives are being pushed out by "ugly, arrogant americans".

b) or foreigners who want to blame the prevelence of low brow culture on the US (even when the US isn't to blame which is mostly the case), to make themselves feel better about themselves and their nation. Essentially they don't have to admit their culture/society could produce low brow culture.
It was a joke.
Get over yourself!

It might of been a joke to you, but many people actually think this. Go travel and find how many people blame commercialism and all other undesirable things as a cause of globalization or americanization.

I have heard other cultures are not this way. What is wrong with Americans?

what's wrong with American culture?

imo, it's everyone butting into everyone else's business. drug users want religious whack jobs banned, liberal lefties want guns banned, hetero's want to ban gays, gays want to ban boxing, mommies want to ban football and movie violence, dads want to ban everything for girls, hoa's want to ban grass over 4 inches long, fatties want to ban mcdonalds, fda want to ban small farms, walmart wants to ban competition, airlines want to ban shoes and electronic devices, rock stars want to ban the internet, dubya wants to ban term limits, wrestlers want to ban soccer, environmentalists want to ban farting, automakers want to ban parking meters, doctors want to ban healthy eating, light manufacturers want to ban the sun.

the problem is that at the rate we're going, everyone is soon going to have their way

What is wrong with American culture, well...

American culture is that stinky green stuff in the bottom of a petri dish in a Smithkline Beecham lab researched with a government subsidy, discovered by a college sophomore, and sold by a used car salesman posing as a Presidential candidate. It may be a plague or it may be a cure for the next pandemic, but in the meantime it is being sold for twice than it is worth to those that are half as smart and they think they are three times over. The commercial says you can't live without it, your children will love you for it, and the five middle aged balding men in a garage singing a jingle affirm that it is at least worth the side effects of vomiting, cramps, dizziness, loss of desire to vote, strong feelings of guilt leading to unpredictable shopping sprees and cravings for Ben and Jerry's. The press hails it as a new miracle, the press hails it as a new miracle, the press hails it as a new miracle, got that? You bought your wifes car from Germany, your kids shoes from Czechoslovakia, and your Television from Mexico, but the pharmacist says it is illegal to buy your meds from Canada. You find you are suddenly exhausted, you have no clue where your children are but you hear the play station so all is well, the dog is dead and bloated next to the dog food bag from Walmart in the garage you forgot to toss, your wife is having an affair with the bank manager who is about to foreclose on your home since your ARM just jumped 120%, and you are now forced to start making house payments with your credit card whose debt ceiling you just doubled at a 24% interest rate. you are about find out that you are to lose your job to a guy from Bangladesh who uses a hacked copy of windows voice software to translate Farsi into English for 1/10th the cost you could and the irony is that you were the one who suggested moving the business overseas to maximize profits for the company in the first place. You drop Born in the USA by the "boss" into the CD player, call direct TV and order the NFL, NASCAR season tickets, and smile knowing that in 37 more payments, your in-ground pool will be paid for and your neighbor still has an above ground pool... that sucker!
