I normally steer clear of any debate dealing with the Israeli's and Arabs because they always degenerate into screaming matches. I personally think Israel and the Palestinians are in a viscous cycle which both groups perpetuate but are unable to break. Both sides just keep doing them same thing...on and on and on.
I agree.
Their conflicts never get bloody enough to really bring them to the bargaining table. Besides, there are a lot of outside interests that want to keep the conflict going because it serves their needs.
What happens when you fail to distract your impoverished people from the corrupt dealings of your dictatorship? Syria happens. Gotta have some evil outside force....the west, the jews, the turks, the ****tes and so on and so forth....
Want to see some REAL bloodshed, go take a peek at the India\Pak situation. 10x as many annual deaths and BOTH sides ahve nukes.
Hamas is not a political organization, it is a terrorist group organized and funded by Iran. Do you think their goal is peace with Israel?
What do you think would happen if we elected the KKK as the ruling party in America? Would they pursue peace with Africa and Israel???
The problem is that Hamas was elected by the Palestinian people. Hamas is a terrorist organization that does not serve the interests of the majority of the Palestinians who have been screwed over time and time again by their own extremist leaders. But Hamas was elected democratically and I assume that anyone who tries to object to their rule in Gaza will be endangering his/her life. Hamas does not want peace with Israel.
Hamas is repairing smuggling tunnels as talks are ongoing. It's looking like hamas isn't serious about a peaceful solution at all.
Gaza is a black market economy. Hamas taxes smuggling. For Gaza to growth they need to create an economy based on real manufactured goods. There has been funds since 2005 in order for them to do so, but they choose the easier way. Many of the donated goods that are trucked in daily into Gaza never make it to the people its intended for and most ends up sold on the black market or used for unintended purposes. Smuggling exists in all countries. But if neither Hamas or Fatah want true independence, then they either need to change, be voted out of power or be removed. Hamas has already removed the voting rights. Thus the choices are limited and only time will tell if the Palestinian people actually want a mutually agreed on peace.

If Hamas won't change, then the people need to overcome their fear of Hamas and remove them from power. We've watched numerous Arab countries overcome their fears. Its time for these people to overcome theirs and choose the right leadership that actually beleive in them and growth. Fatah is trying to get away from its PLO roots, but they are not trustworthy either as their past curruptions cloud out their future.

Part of the reason that the Gazans elected Hamas was because of those PLO issues that you mention.
