obviously the governor of illinois, possibly about to be impeached, has decided to go ahead on his own and appoint a new governor. this is complicated by the fact that a lot of democrats in illinois specifically wanted a black person to get the nomination, but opposed by democrats, including the current lieutenant governor, who feel that blagojevich has disgraced the office and had no right to make an appointment while impeachment proceedings are underway. as well, blagojevich has not yet been convicted of anything even though most people have heard the tapes.

Point of interest, but he wasn't appointing a new governor, he was appointing someone to Obama's open Senate seat. Just thought I'd point that out. And yes, I think it should stand. Burris is very well-qualified candidate and I think he would do a great job. The problem is the appointment is coming from Blagojevich. I'm hoping they can look beyond who appointed him and look at his qualifications. Also, Burris wasn't one of the original candidates and he certainly wasn't trying to buy the seat. His appointment should stand.

Of course it should stand. Innocent until proven guilty is the underlying principle of our criminal justice system, and Blagojevich has not even been impeached, let alone convicted. He was exercising his constitutional duty to fill the seat. And he should be admired for standing up to the hype and hot air from the media and Senate Democrats.
