Decades ago, C. S. Lewis observed the role that envy plays in democracy and the effect it has on education in a democracy. He wrote that democracy “is connected with the political ideal that men should be equally treated. You then make a stealthy transition in their minds from this political ideal to a factual belief that all men are equal….
No man who says I’m as good as you believes it. He would not say it if he did…. The scholar [never says it] to the dunce…. The claim to equality, outside the strictly political field, is made only by those who feel themselves to be in some way inferior. What it expresses is precisely the itching, smarting, writhing awareness of an inferiority which [they] refuse to accept.
And therefore resent. Yes, and therefore resent every kind of superiority in others; denigrate it; wish its annihilation….
...and I guess Conservatism is logical. I think logic is in "the eye of the beholder" or depends upon where a person stands. That's what's great about America you can stand wherever you like and everyone is free to see the logic in their own perspective. There is a lot to be said for the democratic process.
The democratic process sucks when most the country has a reading comprehension score at about the 6-7th grade level... you tend to elect idiots when voters are mostly idiots... so instead of electing people who can do the job, they elect "popular" candidates by the mainstream media or ones that are charismatic... its like high school all over again in the political arena...

Um, whoever you are, two things.
1) That quote is from The Screwtape Letters. Do you have the first clue as to who Lewis's Screwtape was?
2) At C-D you need to give a link to your quotes. Oh wait, I'll do it for you.
Are you serious?? Without liberalism, the US and similar developed countries wouldn't be founded on the principle "all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; that to insure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed."

Yeah, just my thoughts.
LOL
It is not the words to which any side would disagree, rather the interpretation of those words to which conflict arises.
One may interpret those words to mean that people are free to live as they choose under their own hand, free of dictation of their will, and free to pursue that which brings them contentment. That is, free from interference of others.
Another might interpret that to mean that each component is a guarantee, a contract of sale to which all must be fulfilled.
Besides, liberalism to which that was derived is known as "classical" or "traditional" liberalism which is far different than modern liberalism. I doubt many liberals today would embrace it and you are likely to find more conservatives identifying with "classical" liberalism than liberals today.
