I know that most have a balanced budget ammendmantto their constitution, If they want to spend more they have to raise taxes or fees. The federal governamnt is like a homeowner that is deep in debt and keeps borrowing the hole deeper.

I think it's the same governor that has a massive resource under her feet in what is basically a welfare state.

Oh yeah it's also the state that gets the third most money from the federal government: Red State Socialism

Evidently, americans are consuming too much oil? the reason for importing the stuff. I think I recall that the one's that wanted the transalaskan pipeline claimed it would supply the USA with enough oil for 30 years, and without having to depend on foreign oil imports so much during that 30 years. must have been a lie?

I don't quite understand what you're saying, did you think I used the word consume? I said produced meaning extracted out of the ground...

I don't recall any such statement made by anyone that had any knowledge about oil. There have always been the anti-oil people who have always stated that their is no shortage of oil in this country tho. They always contended that there was no shortage. But then the same people recent said that demand had no control of oil prices;but now that the demand has caused prices to drop to adjusted record lows they have another agenda ;to raise tax on oil because they are losing revenue from low demand, They use to call this talking out of the sides of your mouth; because they say on the one hand that high oil prices hurt the poor the most then propose doing the same to the poor in taxes.

I know you said produce and not consume, I was being facetious, because of late, while watching different programs on cablevision, I've seen advertisements pointing out that america gets most of it's oil from the USA, and I was thinking if that were true, why are we so dependent upon foreign/imported oil? you're saying that the reason that certain states don't have financial problems is because they produce oil? if wva is way down to # 25 on the list, it must not be because they are an oil producing state. there has to be another reason. I know alaska is tops in natural resources, be it oil, or gold mining. alaska also has a very low population, and probably has a lower number of people requiring public assistance. it's great when a governor can claim they have no $$$ problems and have a surplus rather than a deficit. I think many factors come into play when government has a shortfall. finding what the largest drain on a state budget and plugging the leak has to be easier than trying to manage the budget of the entire US. so, I don't think that states with no $$$ problems was solved by oil revenues. they must have governors who know how to balance a budget.
