Not entirely true. Schools actually began to desegregate in that decade. Little Rock for instance in September of 1957. If anything the country was far more progressive in that decade than say the 30s or 40s.
Yeah, and the 1850s were progressive compared to the 1830s, but it'd be another 10-15 years before the slaves were free. Maybe the 1950s were more progressive, but that doesn't mean that a major portion of the country was forced to live as second class citizens to the white (not going to say Christian, Jews did well for themselves in that era) male. Black musicians and athletes (the few that were allowed to compete with whites) were forced to stay in segregated hotels and many blacks were barred from any white establishments. Women did not have many options and pretty much had to relegate themselves to a life as a secretary or a housewife. 1950s America seems great when you look at the small town in California without any blacks or mexicans so it was all white and everyone in town had a good job and a stay-at-home mom. You also couldn't say anything pro-Soviet, or you'd be blackballed, and you certainly couldn't support civil rights for blacks in the south or you'd be killed. Yeah, that sounds like a wonderful society. Those who wish for the past either know nothing about it, or are incredibly selfish and egocentric. Progress is the only way forward, not regression.
Some people are certain they have the ONE RIGHT WAY and there is no point in arguing with them.
I believe that Christianity will last for millennia. I also believe that the hierarchical Church will slowly destroy itself as more and more perversions (sexual and monetary) become revealed.
Eventually there will be armagedeon and then the world will end etc.
You should really think about how ridiculous that sounds to someone who is not a Christian.
You can just make anything up and scream "END TIMES!"
I've decided that in my Religion, anyone who doesn't mind their own business and pushes their beliefs on others, will be tied to a chair and poked with pointy sticks for all eternity.
(PS - MARTYR and ARMAGEDDON... at least learn how to spell your fearmongering terms)
Except the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah had nothing to do with homosexuality.
I find it amazing that so many Christians don't even know their own Holy Book, yet are happy to judge and condemn others based on what they think it says.
Who is to say what is deviant? What if somone considers something you think is perfectly "normal" as deviant? It was considered "deviant" for women to be herbalists or healers or educated or outspoken at one time, and thousands were condemned as witches and burned or drowned.
How about ritually eating wafers and wine and pretending it is actual flesh and actual blood? That sounds kinda "deviant" to me.
