I have to congratulate Bush.... He was VERY LATE in doing this - but he finally did the right thing and commuted the sentences of the two border patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Joe Compean.
There time in jail will end March 20th...
Why he didn't do this earlier - I can only assume was because he was doing Mexico a favor by intimidating the border patrol by making examples of these two heroes.
No, he didn't "get it right." It was Bush's lawyers and judges who put these two in jail to begin with. It's just one tiny step in undoing his damage to America.

There is still a sherriff in prison for the same type of hype, I wish he would let him go also but it's a good thing he did it.

I agree - they never should have gone to jail in the first place...
But commuting their sentences is a lot better than letting them rot in jail...
Bush was pounded with faxes, emails and phone calls about these agents and a lot were from me, I actually got answers back on some emails. I didn't ask for commuted sentences I ask for pardons for these agents which I think they deserve. The good thing is they will be free men in a few weeks and be with their family again, as Roaddog said the sheriff in TX locked up for this same BS should be a free man also.

I agree completely...
I've always suspected that Bush cut some deal with Vicente Fox to allow the illegal immigration flood-gates to be opened wide... and putting Campean and Ramos in jail was intentionally meant to have a chilling affect on our border agents - to intimidate them into NOT doing their jobs...
I don't for a moment believe these men received a fair trial. When a known Mexican drug smuggler is allowed to give testimony in the trials and information which would discredit his testimony is kept from the jury, all semblance of fairness flew out the window. There was concrete evidence that a truck full of drugs was found in close proximity to Aldrete but Johnny Sutton kept that fact out of testimony. And in further evidence of his crime, Aldrete has since been tried and convicted of possession of that load of drugs plus of additional ones since the border agents trials and he is now in prison. When that happened those border agents should have been immediately released. Hopefully a couple of their supporters will come forth with new jobs for these men as they will never be allowed back into the Border Patrol.
These two Border Patrol agents ARE guilty of firing their weapons and trying to cover it up. They were supposed to file a report stating why they had to discharge their weapons. So for intentionally trying to cover that up, they definitely deserved serious disciplinary action, maybe even the loss of their jobs.
But they DID NOT deserve criminal charges to be filed against them, nor did they deserve to go to jail. Any disciplinary action taken against them for violating protocol should have come from within the Border Patrol. They never should have been charged with a crime.
I'm really glad they're finally going to get out.
