We do not need more job losses. What the crap are you liberals smoking to think this is a good idea?
Wasn't this signed into law a couple of years ago by George Bush? I could be wrong, but thought there was a bill that increased it every year for two or three years and that it will go to $7.25 an hour this month.

edit- I found it. It was part of the the war bill signed by the president. And also included 4.8 billion in tax cuts to small businesses.

The bill also contained an unrelated provision that represents one of the Democratic majority's top legislative priorities: the first increase in the federal minimum wage in a decade. The minimum pay level will rise from $5.15 per hour to $7.25 per hour over two years.

Also included are $4.8 billion in tax cuts demanded by Republicans to ease the effect of the wage increase on small businesses.

My opinion is that minimum wage increases are for one thing only....so the government receives more money from the increased wages through the payroll taxes. Every time minimum wage goes up, so do all the prices across the board...the restaurants, the groceries, everywhere that pays mimimum wage....so where is the increase to the employee? They are paying more for everything they buy. But the government will get their increase!

The government can get more money all they want but with this group running the show spending money on things that will not work will just makes things worse.

We all could get more thing cheaper if the small businesses did not have to pay unskilled workers this much money.

Gross annual earnings would be $200,800 - almost $50,000 below the $250,000 amount that Obama promised to snatch.

Depends, can we eliminate pay raises for experience? Can we eliminate the escalation of salaries for those on the top end due to competition? These cause inflation just as much as increasing the minimum wage 50 cents an hour. Remember when $1,000,000 meant something? The reason it has lost its meaning is not minimum wage increasing.

When I hire janitors, I like them because they ARE inexperienced. They usually work hard to impress me.

Once they get "experience", however, they're work degrades rapidly.

So then, I fire and rehire. Glad they aren't unionized around here.

Competition allows Employers to hire them for less. Forcing People to exit one job for another job looking for a better wage. But this movement only increases the supply of labor and thus reduces wages further in other job areas.

The next way to solve the minimum wage issue is to end job outsourcing to other countries by lowering taxes and the cost of living. Unfortunetly wages are no longer high enough finance the US Government. The taxes from these meager wages cannot pay to maintain the schools teachers, Police and Fireman pensions.. As long as wages are cheaper in the third world. Jobs will exit America. The only way to stop job outsourcing is to restructure the Governments infrastructure and reduce but not eliminate all taxes. First all civil service, Municipal and Public works employees must be fired. And their pensions eliminated. Then reduce all taxes. That is sales, property, Federal, state and Local taxes. After this is done. We should be able to lower the cost of living in the USA. And will be able to compete again Globally.

Do you seriously belive that people from Europe that move here legally come here to work for 7 bucks an hour? LOL!

So why not pay HS kids 2 bucks an hour then. Because they don't need money, they have no responsibility's? right.
Where I work you have to have a HS diploma to be hired. That means you graduated. Minimum wage is not meant for HS kids.

Students burn money like they burn calories - they NEED more.

Seems fair to me.
Fair would be helping the businesses that you work at by taking a pay cut. As in... walk the talk!
