President Bush commuted the sentences of the two ex-INS agents today for the shooting of a convicted drug smuggler. This is not a full pardon but they're getting out of prison in the next two months. I was going for the full pardon myself.

Me too! Living this close to the border, I think everyone in San Antonio needs to be concerned of the drug issues and the crime they have on our city/state/country.

I personally think those agents were doing every American a favor.

the commuted sentence or the BS of them throwing them under the bus like that?
this story is the perfect example of why the border needs active military protection (as in shoot on contact)
and a mine field..

It's a shame when our agents are getting put in jail for doing their job. I guess the commute is something, but it should be a full pardon.

We actually shouldn't even be talking about this. They should still be on their posts.

I guess the fact that these two tried to cover up the shooting isn't important. I'm all for standing behind our border agents and am perfectly happy with a shoot to kill policy to deter people crossing, but from what I understand, if the shooting was legit, why did these two cover it up?

I don't claim to have all the details of the case but have heard the DA, who by the way routinely backs border agents in these matters, say that these two guys were bad. And apparently a jury agreed.

We can agree that there are border issues all day long but what is supposed to separate us from other countries is that we have standards in law enforcement and military and we follow them. My opinion is, make a rule and publish it in every language that says, you cross our border at any place other than the regulated border crossing, you get a bullet to the head, especially if you are a drug dealer heading back across the border. But until they pass that law, our agents need to follow the rules.

Glad to see Pres. Bush showing our border patrol agents some well-deserved loyalty. I wish it had been much sooner, but glad to see this news.

The sad part was this was accomplished only after considerable "arm-twisting". If nothing would have been said, nothing would have happened...
