Who was president for the eight months prior to 9/11?
Who was president for the 8 years prior to Bush? Are you saying 09/11 would not have happened if Gore were president? You are wrong. In his book Gore wrote about terrorism was such a remote possibility, that we should focus on saving the planet, not on terrorism. I'm thankful HE was not president on 09/11.

And ON 9/11?
What was that, a day off?
If he is to be credited with defending us since 9/11 he bust also bear the blame for not defending us on 9/11. You don't get to pick & choose, he's either responsible for National Defense or he's not.

What I'm saying is that perhaps another person in bush's position may have taken notice of the CIA warning in August that bin Laden was determined to attack in America. Instead, Bush went on vacation for the next month. He could have quietly raised security awareness at airports. He could have gotten the FBI and immigration to start ferreting out foreign nationals in the US on student visas who weren't attending school. Instead, he neglected the entire thing.
The one thing that I would highly rate Bush for, is the transition to a new administration. At least in appearance it really seems to have been a Bush initiative to make it as smooth as possible, for Obama, and most of the new cabinet. Having joint meetings and drills with both old and new cabinet members present.

Good point! Yes, from all reports he's been instrumental in making the transition as smooth as possible and deserves a pat on the back for that.
