Even the GAO concluded that some of the costs were to address wear and tear. Cleaning carpets? And the outgoing staff could hardly have followed the tradition, when they made such a stink about it when they came in, could they? It would have marked them as hypocrites.
So yes, let's do be grateful that they decided to depart from this tradition, and let's hope that Obama's team acts with grace as well, when they move on.

Maybe the Obama team is already acting with grace. I watched the entire inauguration Tuesday. Several Obama staff members left immediately after the swearing-in to start work at the WH. Robert Gibbs, Obama's press secretary, commented they were having trouble getting their computers working. Since Obama and his team are technically oriented, do you think the bushies actually did some damage to the computers and Obama's team is choosing to ignore it because they don't want it publicized. I guess they have more important matters that need attention.
