I'm all for an electronic database of all medical records ... and talk about data entry jobs. I would not want that job, but it's a job. Stimulus or not though, that would be a good thing to have.

What would be good about it?

This stimulus bill is turning out to be a way for politicians to stick in massive amounts of pork. Look, I think electronic medical records that any hospital can access is a good idea. It would make doctor's lives a lot easier. Obviously, there would need to be safeguards built into the system to prevent unauthorized access. However, I don't think Congress should make it part of any economic stimulus bill. It should be part of a future healthcare reform bill.

And just as obvious (unless you live under a rock) the safeguards would be circumvented, compromised and abused by the very same people entrusted to monitor it.

I don't know enough about computer security to give any opinions. What I do know is if you talk to any doctors (especially PCP's) 9 out of 10 will tell you that electronic medical records will make their jobs much easier. Again I support e-medical records but I don't think it should be part of this stimulus package.

I value my personal rights over that of making a doctors job easier.

Why not read the bill yourself, rather than trust wnd to misinterpret it?

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c111:H.R.1:

Scroll way down to: TITLE IV--HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

edit: If it's not allowing the search result page to show, try
http://senate.gov/pagelayout/legisla...e_leg_page.htm

click on "HR1" after "economic stimulus" then click on "text of legislation" in the table.
