Rasmussen Reports™: The Most Comprehensive Public Opinion Site. (http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/business/general_business/public_support_for_economic_recovery_plan_slips_to _42 - broken link)
Seems the republicans in congress aren't the only ones who consider this package nothing but a spend-fest by the dems.
Quote:
Forty-two percent (42%) of the nation’s likely voters now support the president’s plan, roughly one-third of which is tax cuts with the rest new government spending. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 39% are opposed to it and 19% are undecided. Liberal voters overwhelmingly support the plan while conservatives are strongly opposed.
Last week, support for the President’s plan was at 45% and opposition at 34%.
As they consider the size and scope of the $800-billion-plus economic recovery plan, 46% are worried that the government will end up doing too much while 42% worry that it will do too little (see trends).
2/3 of new government spending - this we don't need. History has shown that overspending by the government in an economic downturn does not work. It has been tried before and failed miserably. Why would the dems and obama push for a package that is doomed to fail? I believe as more of the wasteful spending gets out to the public even more will oppose this horrible bill.
Tax cut is also a spending program (or a way to create deficit), but one that guarantees little to nothing, and hurts a lot more to the nation's bottom line.
Republicans will continue to be seen as out of ideas, until they can respond with a solution that is anything but a patchwork, much less one that actually works.
. . . To be fair, Democrats also approved the first bail out package--and they did so in larger numbers than Republicans. But there was more of a feeling of bipartisanship then than now.
The vote AGAINST the pork bill was bipartisan -- 11 dems joined republicans in voting against it.
The vote FOR the pork was purely partisan politics, only dems.
The only person here in Colorado Springs that has admitted to me that she voted for Obama, told me Wednesday that if I'm unhappy about the stimulus package, then I should just sign my check over to her. She is under the impression that every family is going to get a $2400-$3600 check in February.
I stood there stunned... she really believes this and could not be convinced that there will be no checks.
Something I have said from the beginning of all this... the people who will be hurt most by Obama are those who voted for him - they do not know/see what's coming!
All the complaining about the deficit and you guts want further decrease income for something that hasn't worked! Bush cut taxes and never created the jobs that were created during the Clinton adminisrtation! All excuses aside if tax cuts all you have then you have nothing!
I don't consider that rolling over to sign a bill that you had no input on and was hurried thru as being partisan.Remember that the rrepublicans turned down the stimulus bill and the democratic leadership brought it up for anohter vote.So who is the one that really pushed it.this stimulusw has so much pork in it and non-stimulus spending that it sholud be turn back IMO.
