It probably has nothing to do with pregnancy being glamorized by Ashley Simpson, Nicole Ritchie and Jamie Lynn Spears... Teens probably didn't even notice teen and early adult hood pregnancy being glamorized by the media... I hardly heard anything about it on the web, newspapers, magazines....
No matter how much you wish it weren't true (why is that, btw?) abstinance works.
Works at what? You are presenting a circular argument: abstinence works because there is more of it? You need to present cause and effect.
It's not working for all the millions of other teenagers who are having unprotected sex, getting pregnant, and spreading disease. Those things are also on the rise.
So...fewer kids are having sex and more kids are getting pregnant and getting STD's. Is that what you mean by "works?"
I'll post these again to help with your comprehension;
Of course, all is not perfect, but the numbers are better than before.
It's great to be optimistic, but logically, of course abstinence causes fewer pregnancies and STD's. The fault in your logic is that the article you are citing does not claim that the abstinence-only approach to sex education actually influences teenagers to be less sexually active. The article only says that the public perception that the majority of teenagers are sexually active is wrong, only 47+ percent are engaging in sex.
It would seem to be obvious that if roughly half of teens are engaging in sex, then teaching them effective contraception and protection against STD's would be a better use of resources, then trying to get them to stop having sex.

You mean all the people not actually practicing abstinence. No one actually practicing abstinence has ever gotten pregnant.....ever. Ones who talk of abstinence then do otherwise may though.
Guess as long as there is no you know what inserted into the you know what
So obscure perverted sexual acts do cause more STD's and such to be spread? The GLBT or whatever community is going to have a hissy...unless that's not what you are trying to say...
The real message being conveyed.....
MIAMI – The American Civil Liberties Union announced today that Heather Gillman has been selected by the Playboy Foundation to receive the Hugh M. Hefner First Amendment Award for “her fearlessness in speaking out on behalf of the rights of gay students” at Ponce de Leon High School, located in Florida’s Panhandle.
Of course I bet giving high school students (and a female at that) awards from Hugh Hefner probably have no affect at all on the perception young children are getting from adults...
The ACLU? Kids probably don't even know who that is... Yes the act was commendable but what are the actual consequences of saying hey young girl you did a good deed here is an award from a man who made millions on the exploitation of women ... By the way don't get pregnant...and don't have sex...
