Cause nothing is for free and there are too many corrupt people who will steal and then there are too many people who want to see someone for splinters in their fingers and then you have the problem of stealing from someone to give to another... yeah, when we solve the problem of stealing from someone to give to another, let me know.... until then, NO socialism...
Because the Health Insurance and Pharmaceutical companies have a battalion of lobbyists for each member of congress. So the politicians in turn have decided to campaign vigorously against National Healthcare through use of hyperbole and outright lies in the hopes that enough Americans will fear images of White-clad doctors marching in lockstep carrying pictures of Lenin and Marx and singing Red Army Choir Songs.

You'd never know from what you hear on the Hill that 64% of Americans favor a universal healhcare service.
Well, if you asked someone if they like to get something for free... I am pretty sure you will get a positive response... polls are stupid and so are the people who try to make them more than they are...

I bet 90% of Americans are in favor of eliminating the income tax - does that mean its going to happen, or that its the right thing to do?
Where o' where did I assert that it should happen because a majority of Americans favor it? I just pointed out that the majority of Americans favor it and how odd I find that the public is so at odds on the issue with the government.
Keeping in mind that I was not even born in the US, and that I already know about "socialized medicine," I can tell you that socialized medicine is coming to us Americans. See, generations of Americans have had it easy compared to a lot of other peoples around the world. These freedoms Americans enjoy have attracted generations of immigrants from around the world, but all is coming to an end as socialism is changing the face of the nation.
You don't have to believe what I am to tell you, but consider "socialized medicine" just as what the US public education is today: a complete mess. Under such a system, there is no need for a doctor or hospital to excel, since there is no monetary value for the doctor or hospital. In my view, the best medicine is what we now have, except that it's too expensive. However, there are three branches of Government that can easily bring the cost down by stopping frivolous lawsuits, and by centralizing insurance claims. Doctors have no choice but to charge a lot of money, for their liability insurance is sky high.
In the US, only Politicians get UHC. Us plebes have to pay through the arse to be insured.
Our healthcare system, although presently the best in the world, is becoming so costly through fraud, abuse, and rates that are skyrocketing.
Universal healthcare, while admirable has huge drawbacks. I hear there are people in countries that have UHC that are on waiting lists for months, if not years. And in a large number of the countries that have UHC (with the exception of smaller countries like Finland or Sweden), most of the people also carry private insurance because of the lengthy waiting period for government subsidized healthcare.
At least we would have a choice in being covered by the system or paying for it ourselves. There are people here in the U.S. on waiting lists as well. Waiting is just a part of life....and sometimes it can mean life and death. While we wait for the politicians to decide whether or not they want to offer health insurance, many Americans who have lost their health insurance because they have been laid off or those who make too much to qualify for Medicare/Medicaid but not enough to have private insurance will suffer.

As for the comments about people wanting it for free, I think most Americans are smart enough to know that this won't be a "free" system.
wow... a person who thinks polls are the answer... we have a winner here folks...
