I wish he'd stood up and said, "I'm the best swimmer in the history of the universe AND I like to get high now and again. Now what?"
It's probably something many politicians deal with. Instead of committing political suicide (or in Phelps' case, endorsement suicide) by saying "Yes, I smoke pot, and I don't feel bad saying it," they deny it, or apologize dearly if caught red-handed.
Not that I have any actual data to back this up, but I'd be willing to bet that if every person with influence (anything from politics, media, entertainment, etc) that toked up once in a while stood up and admitted it, we'd see that a surprisingly large number of known faces smoke marijuana. But again, they all just keep quiet, thereby making sure the subject stays taboo.
I believe marijuana should be legalized. Alchohol is worse than weed and its legal. Plus you cant get addicted to marijuana. It makes you happy and more focused. Alchohol impairs judgement and makes you emotional. The only reason marijuana isn't legal is because the govt. cant control it because anybody can grow it in thier own back yard. If there is no profit, the govt. has no interest.
I agree , alchohol is much worse, you do realise however that Michael Phelps was charged with drunk driving at age 19 don't you?
I love all the defending what he's done by trying to turn the argument to alchohol abuse, Michael Phelps knows alchohol too!!!!! He had too much to drink while 19, got in his car and drove. He could've killed somebody but all the potheads are trying to mitigate his puff-the-magic-dragon episode by harping on all the "adults" who drink.
people can brew their own beer, make their own wine and make liquor in the form of moonshine. So what is your point?
the gov't could make money off pot if it were leagal and subsequently taxed. of couse if they did that more people would smoke it , more people would get in cars and accidents would rise due to impariment.
I was much more offended by that stupid godaddy.com commercial Danica Patrick was in. Not because I'm prude, but rather because the commercial was dumb. I guess godaddy.com and people making a big deal out of this have something in common. They like to insult our intelligence.

1) Being legal doesn't mean legal and free. It can be a prescription substance delivered in the same way as other medications and subject to the same laws.
2) As you correctly said, alcohol is even more dangerous. Why then we don't have prohibition on alcohol? Maybe something to do with reality? Yes, alcohol is dangerous, it causes accidents, but nevertheless we learned to live with it, for better or worse. Such is life.
3) Regardless if marijuana should or shouldn't become legal, Michael Phelps is an idiot for doing that. He knows what the consequences are and he is just an.....
I once smoked highly potent hydroponic marijuana with a friend, literally all day. I also once drank about six shots (from what I remember) of Bacardi 151. One of these incidents had me in the bathroom vomiting for hours. I was sick for two days and had the worst stomach pains ever. Can you guess which incident caused this?

Agreed. My oldest brother is an actor. Not a famous one, but he knows a lot of the A-list celebs personally. We were once having a discussion about drugs in Hollywood. He was talking about all the parties he's been to. He said you wouldn't believe how many stars do drugs. Many you'd never expect.
I just watched the Inside Edition special on him..
OMG can you believe he goes clubbing! And get this he gambles + goes to STRIP CLUBS!!. This man is just out of f'n control. [/end sarcasm]
Seriously Inside Edition is so beyond sensational journalism it is insane.
With that said I think that he should have been stripped of everything the moment he was caught drinking and driving. I do not care about him smoking pot but I do mind him drinking and driving and that goes for everyone.
I never said it doesn't impair judgement. I just simply stated that it makes you happy and scientifically proven it helps you focus better. And you cant get addicted to the stuff. People don't think they need it. They just really want it and "crave" it. Its just part of being a pothead.
Yeah more focused until you forget what you were concentrating on a minute later.

Here's a good example of focus: smoke some & then start cleaning your apartment-you won't stop til your place is sparkling.
