Prime A1 example of why the USA is going down hill.

You cannot spend as much as the rest of the World combined on the military with just 20% of World GDP. Other countries will leave you in the dust by spending more on education, infrastructure, saving more, investing more, and spending more on direct technology research, etc.

But thanks to defense industry lobbying and right wing ideology infecting conventional wisdom this is where we are at.

The only ideology I see in Washington is the left wing ideology of more and more unsustainable welfare and entitlement spending until we are bankrupt.

Leave compassion to the liberals, you also likely believe that items like contraception in economic recovery package is pork, when in reality it is designed to reduce welfare spending (which runs in billions to the government).

But, to know that, more than a talking point is necessary.

We are currently bankrupt unless you haven't noticed and here is why:

You want to skimp on a defense budget? There are LOTS of things America can do without, but having a weak military just isn't one of them.

Our "strong" military failed to catch Bin Laden.

Who's saying anything about skimping? What would be wrong with a 20% reduction? Where we would spend 40% of the World total rather than 50%? It's not like we don't have pressing problems here at home?

It could have been the situation that the US spends 75% of World military spending on 10% of World GDP and it still wouldn't be enough for you right wing paranoids!

I agree, but there is quite a bit of space between have a frugal military and a weak one. There are a lot of toys in the chest and only a few of them ever get played with. So, is it always necessary to go out and buy more toys?

It is highly debatable on whether cutting the defense budget will make the military significantly weaker.
