The above link is about Macy's executives giving themselves bonuses after they've layed off 7,000 workers. I think I'll shop someplace else.
Im glad people are finally taking notice of this since our country is on the verge of collapse but does this really surprise you? This has been going on for years now
They are more important than the mere worker bee that is employed in the store. The employees that actually has contact with the customers and makes the business a go. No customers no store.
But they don't need to worry themselves about such things...
What a sick world we live in. Ya know, this financial crisis really brings home the avarice thats in all our hearts. I'll think I'll go and throw up now!
Well of course! It's a pat on the back for them being able to send more people to the soup lines. They are accomplishing their goal, of course they should get bonuses! What's wrong with ya?

Exactly why they shouldn't be getting a bonus. The business is not doing so well.
What I find especially troubling about this is that there are many organizations in this country, including mine, where our primary cost-cutting strategy for the coming fiscal year is to reduce (or possibly forego completely) ANY salary increases for mid-level and upper-level administrators, in the interest of keeping as many people as possible employed and receiving full benefits during the current downturn.
Yet not one word is reported about this in the media. I cannot but be disappointed that there are not more stories about how some people are taking positive steps to deal with the crisis, and asking the more fortunate among us to make sacrifices on behalf of our co-workers.
Now, see, that would be a step towards solving the problem. If it became a trend, and the number of customers dropped so dramatically that even the executives had to look up from their piles of money, perhaps the self-awarding of bonuses would slow down. Maybe even stop.
