Maybe the government will now want to provide an outside 'baddie' for people to concentrate on in times of crisis. The outside 'baddie' may well be either terrorists of aliens. Actually, terrorists are going out-of-fashion these days and have become 'old hat'.
Perhaps we all need a more dramatic, bigger and worse 'baddie' than the last one which means that aliens are next on the list.
