And snake-oil cures lumbago. The current loss of jobs and cutbacks in private investment are being driven by decreasing demand. Raising taxes while reducing spending only brings about further drops in demand. How do you expect to "create jobs" and "put America back to work" that way...

Even the top 1% of income earners pays an average of only about 22 cents out of each dollar of AGI in federal income taxes. If the six-figure doctor can't get by, it isn't because of taxes...

Governments and households are completely different things, and each of them is also different from corporations. Why would you expect that the rules of one sector would apply in another? That they often don't is one of the reasons that there are sectors to begin with...

The person I was responding to also mentioned that a person earning 1 million plus per year should have to pay a 90% tax. My point is that this is still America and I believe in Capitalism and a person's right to wealth. Should the top 1% get taxed more? Maybe, but not to the point where the playing field is level in that everyone earns relatively the same after tax breaks or paying taxes regardless of education or employment choice.

Fact is, many American's work extremely hard for what they have and it's wrong for that person to have to pay for an illegal immigrant, lazy person with no initiative, or anyone else unwilling to get off their arse to earn living.

Rules may be very different but common sense can be appllied to all of the above.

Spend more than your company earns and you operate in the red.

Spend more than you earn and you operate in the red. Priciples are principles.

Our Government spends more than it receives in revenue. We operate in the red. We need to fix this because if we don't we're screwed. Even more so than we are now. We can never be an economically strong nation if we spend more than we make and we keep borrowing money from countries such as China.

You want your big Government but you don't want to pay for it -- plain and simple! Too many American's think this way... Republican's and Democrat's!

All a flat tax is typically going to do is shift tax burden off of rich people and push it somewhere further down the income scale...

You missed the part where I said that those who earn more than 90% of american's pay a higher percentage of their gross income..... Go back and read again. I also said that those who earn less than the poverty level would pay no taxes. The bean counters could easily figure out what these tax rates would be based on our current Government spending.

Those who want more money would be forced to figure out how to earn it. In America there are still opportunities to do this.

All a flat tax will do is put a lot of overpaid accountants out of work. Bye bye, don't let the door hit you on the way out!

Oh, and curtail the needless auditing and harassment of lower income folks by big daddy gubmint.

Don't have time to read the whole transcript. I do know this, where are we now? Who was the party in charge for the last 8 years? And where are we now. Bush and the Repugs drove this country in the ground with their spending and no accountability for the last 8 years.
