Gangs are certainly a problem and sometimes their violent crime spills over into the general neighborhoods that is for sure. You have to understand the difference between "ordinary" violent crime as it were and politically motivated terrorism. Planting a bomb outside a family clinic is a deliberate act of terror with political motives in mind. Ergo it is terrorism while gang members, murders though many of them are, would not be politically motivated and so they would not be classified as terrorists. A terrorist has to do two things 1) he has to be targeting the general population with the goal of creating terror in the general population and 2) their violence needs to be politically motivated. I don't see your average street gang doing that.
I agree with you on this. My point wasn't to classify it as terrorism, but to point out that there are violent nuts on both sides of the political spectrum that are violent for a wide range of reasons. I don't think it's helpful to try to make it a republican problem or a democrat problem. We have a lot of violence and it needs to be addressed.
I would hardly classify bloods and crips as politically active or politically motivated. They are certainly not on anyone's political "side".
The closest I can think of on the left would be ELF, which is a criminal organization no doubt, but at least their goal isn't to kill people. They do commit property crimes (such as arson and vandalism) and for that they need to go to jail. That still isn't really the same as say the OC bomer, the Olympic Park Bomber, the numerous family planning clinic bombers, or the White Supremacist guy in this thread who was using his trust fund money to make a dirty bomb in his garage.

It's not so much dem or rep but in the case of the white supremacists it's far right wing propaganda that incites them. Black president triumphant, liberals spending all your money - they come up out of their basements into the real world with guns (or dirty bombs) blazing. The guy in Tennessee who shot up the Unitarian Church to cleanse his town of liberals had overdosed on Hannity, Savage and BillO. Im not saying Fairness Doctrine at all, Im just saying it's an example of the effect hate messages have on weak-minded people.
I am trying to remember the last time there were terrorist bombings by left wing radicals. Seems to me the closest a left winger gets to a bomb is using a bong. Then they just want to get bombed.
