Four Southern states — Texas, South Carolina, Oklahoma and Arkansas — are considering legislation that would allow people to carry handguns openly in a holster.
These generally Second Amendment-friendly states are among the last six holdouts against open carrying of guns.
Sounds good to me....of course I would prefer NO laws at all about open or concealed carry.
I should not need the government's permission to exercise my rights.
I definitely qualify under the libs "gun nut" category, but I would be concerned about open/concealed carry for individuals who enter bars and become intoxicated. Being a designated driver who doesn't drink one night or for a Blood Alcohol level of under some amount (< .08) should prohibit you from carrying into a bar or restaurant.
I see no reason a law abiding individual should not be able to carry a fire arm, in an open or a concealed location anywhere they has a legal right to be. Drunks are excluded because public intoxication is a crime in most places.
Problem is a law will not stop someone from being a criminal...
I agree. However, the consequences of carrying while "buzzed" should be sufficiently severe. Perhaps suspension of the license for a period of time?
Then again, there are already laws on the books for shooting innocent bystanders during a self-defense scenario because you are too intoxicated to defend yourself properly (i.e. manslaughter), so I stand corrected.

I'm pretty sure just about every state prohibits open and concealed carry in establishments that sell alcohol. Also schools, federal property, and some other places...
