The stimulus is intended as a short term plan to stimulate the economy. Do you think that Congress will cut much of this spending (not referring to specific project spending) after the economy stabilizes and what will they cut?

Some of the programs within the package were designed to help towards spending cuts in the future with some impact in the near future, but most of them were marked as pork by the GOP because they didn't promise immediate relief/stimulus. This was classic shortsightedness at its best. STD and contraceptive programs, inclusion of hybrid vehicle in government fleet (about 10% of the fleet to be converted to hybrid). How many of those programs make it thru to the final version, we shall see.

I have no doubt Congress will also cut spending. If they can cut 5-10% in spending without affecting job growth, devise ways to reduce trade deficit (a lot of it can come from us, simply by conserving oil and importing less of it), plug tax loop holes, and we should be in a comfortable situation couple of years down the road.

Pork barrel projects like Al Hurra, a US government run TV network in the Middle East since 2004, should go away. Most of us don't have a clue that about half billion of our tax dollars have been used up to that effect alone, and could cost us billions more. We also need to stop playing Robinhood to other countries, giving them money that WE don't have. While some of it may be necessary, we're talking expenses that run in billions! In fact, recently we gave Israel $1.1 billion in oil alone.

If it works as planned, consumer spending should pick up enough to sustain the economy.

Even if the current stimulus plan shows results it cannot replace the money that so many have lost from their retirement accounts and plans, money which will now never be spent in the economy. Also, when the economy finally starts to show a rebound it will not magically cause people and employers to begin spending in volume. If anything, people will be reluctant to begin spending opting to try to save and recoup the beating whivh they have undergone.

it's a friggen joke----but just what I expected from this prez. He is going to give more money to those on welfare. uh.......ok-figured. He's going to give NOTHING-nothing to those who have always worked but now can't find a job, those who have never received welfare, those who contributed most of their adult lives but now need a job and don't qualify for welfare, food stamps,un-employment. Oh yea........I had him figured out when I saw his picture for the first time.

Why...they will keep on spending of course.

Most of the pork in this bill belongs in a normal omnibus spending bill, not a stimulus bill.

All questions pertaining to inquiries by the 52% who think they now own the 57 states can be answered by this weeks Newsweek edition, "We're All Socialists Now". That's really all they need to know until the soup lines are formed and directions to queue up are given.

For the free thinking 48%, spending will continue in the newly formed clandestine free market. 'Bama Bobbleheads need not ask.
