Here's a great bit of analysis by Gavin at Sadly, No! It captures the essence of what so many of us see here at C-D with the extremist right-wingers. In a way, his very insightful post is what I was trying to capture here. But he's smarter and funnier.
This is exactly what is going on with all the birth certificate posts, all the "hateful, racist liberal" posts, all the other trivia that they post.

When it's not O it's the Clintons or Pelosi or Reid or the Clintons or Soros or the latest strawman dujour whipped up for the F#X right wing propagandists. But then what do you expect from gun fetishists, hate mongers and war mongers? They're not happy unless they're attacking someone or destroying something. They look or make up any pretext to vent their venom. And when you DARE question their lunacy you're an evil, liberal, socialist "America hater" because only they know what's right for America and they have a monopoly on patriotism.
That "destroying something" line is key; these people sound and act like the suicide bombers of Islamic extremism - only a lot of them are our own home-grown evango-fascists of extreme so-called "christians," most of whom wouldn't know Christ if they met him. I have NO doubt that if he could've gotten away with it, Jerry Falwell would've burned gays alive at the stake, along with feminists and anyone who didn't agree with him. We have met the enemy and it is within.
And what IS your topic? That ONLY people who lean right politically can be extreme? Your vaunted left leanings cannot , by definition, be extreme? Left or right a wacko is a wacko. . Get a topic worth discussing and maybe we will talk.
I'm not sure that I agree completely. I do notice that they avoid and ignore evidence, but I think that they are caught up in this belief of a grand scheme. What I mean is they seem to think that there is an attempt to control their lives buy the liberals. They seem to believe that the liberals control virtually everything so they only trust what backs what they already believe in.
I think that's part of that weird paranoid bully/victim split personality that defines them.
