Chavez is the absolute model of a socialist dictator:
Chávez's success in attracting attention -- cozying up to Fidel Castro's Cuba, signing an arms deal with Russia, visiting Iran and incessantly criticizing the United States -- has popularized the notion that Chavismo embodies a new future for Latin America. By preserving some freedoms, including a relatively free press and pseudo-democratic elections, Chávez has developed what some observers call a postmodern dictatorship, neither fully democratic nor fully totalitarian, a left-wing hybrid that enjoys a legitimacy never reached in Castro's Cuba or in the Soviet Union.
His entire philosophy can be summed up in others making the investments and providing the industrial infrastructure, and then "I'll take it from here" after all of the heavy lifting is done. Fortunately, his complete lack of foresight inhibits him from growing the economy after tossing out the smart and industrious leaders.
I think its ironic... the main people who seem to be protesting against socialism are the young adults.... meanwhile over here, it is the young adults that are voting for socialism... weird isn't it?
People in Venezuela are dancing in the streets at the prospect of becoming the next Cuba. I don't get it. How many more places does socialism need to fail before people realize it doesn't work? This Chavez guy is gonna be around for a really long time.
Only the oil rich countries such as Russia, Iran and Venezuela are still trying to pull this off. Show me a non-oil or natural gas rich nation attempting to go in Chavez's direction.

Not really, they aren't voting for socialism as much as just negatively reacting to the last administration. Once they get a decent understanding of how socialism really works, their attitudes will significantly change.
We're only seeing the media they want to release. One of my closest friends left Venezuela because Chavez was destroying the country and he's now trying to get his mother out. There is a ton of opposition to him.
Unfortunately, the young people in the US have no idea what socialism really is and they support it. He's giving them JUST enough to keep them totally dependent on the government. When he does that, he controls everything.
But instead of looking at what he's giving them, look at what he's taken away. He's taken away the ability to live an independent life and control your own destiny.
Now look at the stimulus here....giving people JUST enough to get by.
Chavez is robbing Peter to pay Paul. While many right-wingers make him out to be far more repressive than he really is, he is eventually going to f--k the economy up and the people of Venezuela aren't going to realize it until it is too late.
If you're a rich landowner, or mgmt in a Multinat, Chavez is the devil.
If you're a campensino, he's your savior.
You're exactly making my point. Socialism is giving the poor JUST enough to make them dependent on you. He's giving them a fish. Not teaching them to fish.
And taking away from those that have become successful to do so. Because those that are successful are competition for him. Can't have that...no, sir.
It really scares me that people can't see the problem with this. And that it's starting to happen elsewhere (HERE!)
