Point being that the right-wingers who like to call our president "Barry" or B. Hussein will be hearing about Jindal's (gasp) "foreign-sounding" real name during any upcoming national election involving him.

And as far as Jindal not taking stimulus package money for Louisiana...suppose it turns out that people in that state disagree with his stance. Why, it could cost him the governorship! I imagine that wouldn't be much help in his desire to run for the White House.

A majority of Americans are agaisnt the STEALFROMUS bill. It takes away from and punishes the producers in this country. There is NOTHING in there for small business owners. Funny how Obama ran his campaign on the middle class being the backbone of the country. How small businsesses accounted for the largest growth of jobs and how 95% of middle class Americans would see a tax cut. He forgot to say that tax cut would be $13 dollars per week, bi weekly, whatever, and that small business owners would get rammed up the rear and we'd funnel the money to a bunch of garbage. I'm all for those who don't believe or support the stimulus not taking or being a part of it. This isn't about republican or democrat. It's about prinicples and standing up to them and making good on your word. It's called integrity, and it's something many in DC on BOTH sides of the aisle are lacking or bereft of comletely.

There's some talk of some states that may not take the money. It will be news if any state actually doesn't take the money.
My first reaction when I heard that Piyush Jindal was apparently really thinking about not accepting the money for his state was, Louisiana just can't catch a break.
I believe that there is already at least one petition to recall Jindal, filed last summer. I don't know the status of that petition.

The thing is, he may not accept "state" money, his state will still benefit from federal investments And if the package does work, which it should, then go about telling everybody "we did alright without any spending". Watch for it.

SC's Mark Sanford (R) may have beaten him to the punch.
Either way, it does not matter, because SC's Jim Clyburn (D) helped insert a clause into the stimulus bill that somehow (not sure of the details) gives the authority to accept stimulus aid to the state legislatures, not the governors. AKA the "Mark Sanford Rule," Clyburn saw this coming.

That is exactly what I was thinking Rubber Factory. SC has a demogogue governor and two grandstanding Senators who do nothing for us. And this has nothing to do with them being Rs- we've had some decent Rs before who understood constituent service and business (namely Campbell, Thurmond and the elder Ravenel.) But this group is all about making the evening news.
The truth is the Dems in the SC delegation, Clybrun and Spratt are sitting on a lot of power in this Congress and will get things sent home for good or for bad. If worse comes to worse we might start seeing municipalities or counties applying for grants and the like. In twenty years the I-95 corridor in SC will be like Alaska under Stevens. Every third building will bear Jim Clyburn's name. And as much as the Rs feign disgust they will happily show up at every ground-braking and business relocation announcement they can.

I don't care much for most South Carolina Republicans, particularly the upstate politicians, but Sanford might be my favorite American politician. I always thought that he was one of the few politicians who had a grasp on markets, when they work, and when they do not. I have tremendous respect for his opinons, although I understand that he has been ineffective as governor.
For the record, I think it would be stupid to reject federal stimulus, and I think he knows that.

Yep, I grew up in the I-95 corridor, in Clyburn's district. He's done a lot of good things for black folks, at the expense of everyone else. I can't say I blame him, exactly, but I don't think much of him in general.
