I think that individuals are better at figuring out what makes them happy as individuals. Nobody else can do that for anyone.

If the government was not so overtly and blatantly corrupted (especially over the past eight stinking Bush years) and was functioning as it should, the USA would not be in the shape that is in. The government is here for the people and maybe the OP should read the Preamble to the Constitution...

We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

In our case only the very fortunate are considered people. The rest of us are considered exploitable labor.

that means for EVERYONE, not just the rich.
