WASHINGTON – A U.S. appeals court reversed a ruling Wednesday that would have transferred 17 Guantanamo Bay detainees, none of whom are labeled enemy combatants, to the United States.
The ruling casts further uncertainty on the fate of the Turkic Muslims from western China. Because there is no evidence they plotted or fought against the United States, the government has no authority to hold them at Guantanamo Bay. But figuring out what to do with the men has been a diplomatic problem for years.
Hm, what to do, what to do? I'm sure there are some in these United States who would welcome them into their homes, let 'em draw a little welfare, register 'em to vote, even. Kinda throws a wrench into The One's vow to close GITMO. Should prove interesting down the road, eh? It's similar to some problems the Allies faced after WWII. The article says they don't want to send them home
Quote:
The United States will not release the Uighurs to their home for fear they will be tortured. Earlier this month, Beijing warned other countries not to accept the men...
Since they're not enemy combatants the District Judge wanted to just release them to the US. This new ruling is that since that would be immigration it falls under the executive rather than the judicial branch.
The article also says
Quote:
"The U.S. released four Uighurs from Guantanamo Bay in 2006, sending them to Albania because it was the only country that would take them. A Swedish immigration court granted asylum to one of those men..."
So when you say
Quote:
Kinda throws a wrench into The One's vow to close GITMO.
You're figuring Obama won't be able to figure out a solution by next year?

Nope, didn't say that at all, just said it throws a wrench into the gears. Closing GITMO is not going to be an overnight sensation, contrary to the left's ideology, just like pulling troops out of Iraq and into Afghanistan is not, either. Sorry, you lose, fc.

After WW-II we had to fight with the Ruskies over who got to keep the top talent. Those nazi scientists had some serious talent in the field of sciences, and the military nazis had a lot to teach the US military.
But these Gitmo guys don't have much to offer, do they? Bush tried to get rid of as many as possible by releasing them, but of course he couldn't release them all at once, and now there are about 30% of them still left.

Funny how minor details like "REALITY" might interfere with their looney agenda.
Send them to NYC and give them cabbie licenses. We'll never notice them until they blow something up.
