WASHINGTON (AP) — The Obama administration and the new Congress are quickly handing over to Republicans the same "culture of corruption" issue that Democrats used so effectively against the GOP before coming to power.
Freshman Sen. Roland Burris, D-Ill., is only the latest embarrassment.
Senate Democrats accepted Burris because they believed what he told them: He was clean. Burris now admits he tried to raise money for Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, who authorities say sought to sell President Barack Obama's former Senate seat.
"The story seems to be changing day by day," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said Wednesday.
The political mess for the Democratic Party, however, isn't Burris' conduct alone; it's the pattern that has developed so quickly over the past few months.
_The chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, Rep. Charles Rangel, D-N.Y., is the subject of a House ethics investigation. It's partly focused on his fundraising practices for a college center in his name, his ownership financing of a resort property in the Dominican Republic and his financial disclosure reports.

The rest

Meet the new bar. It's not the same as the old bar. Just as was promised during the recent campaign, the bar for "cleanliness" has been raised in 2009, just as it was when the Democrats took over Congress in 2007.

I've said all along that, if the Dems win the government, it would be a fun time to be a conservative. Anyway, conservatives seem to accomplish more being on the defensive than on the offensive.

Cut that party line and put down the kool-aid!

Meet the New Boss... Same as the Old Boss..... and if you don't realize that I feel bad for you.

Funny that these things qualify as a "raised bar for cleanliness"
1. Pay your taxes
2. Do not pay or accept bribes for appointments
3. Report gifts from lobbyists and supporters

and on and on and on

Yes, they do less damage when cooped up in a little box with no power at all. Let's make sure we keep things that way for a while. A good long while...

So, let me get this straight....Blagojevich was corrupt. If Burris knew that Blagojevich was crooked and was still helping him raise money for a compaign, the buh bye Burris. But if Burris was just helping out, how does this wash on him?

I get how Blagojevich rubs us all the wrong way, but this is like when people were making a big deal over whether or not Obama had "had contact" with Blagojevich or Blagojevich's office. Contact and fundraising does not equal corruption unless you knew of the corruption.

To me, this is another right wing attempt to make mountains out of molehills. Blagojevich is a crooked politician, so what. Kick his azz out and let's get on with it. Do we indict the person who sat next to him at a Starbucks next?

Seriously folks, get some perspective.

Wow! Did you think that up all by yourself?

How you feel is completely irrelevant. Fact is that the Demcrats ran in 2006 on a promise to raise ethics standards and they did. They ran in 2008 on a promise to raise ethics standards again and they have. Deal with it...

Everyone paid his or her taxes. Questions are over whether they were in the right amount or not. In a system of voluntary reporting, such questions are raised with hundreds of thousands of taxpayers every year. Blagojevich has been removed from office. If Burriss' sworn testimony was materially inaccurate or incomplete, he will be dispatched as well. Most gifts from lobbyists are banned. Those that aren't must be reported.

Unless you have been in a hut in the middle of nowhere for the last few weeks you would realize that the Democrats are making fools of themselves right now. Personally, I was hoping for all of the things that Obama promised but it appears politics trumps common decency these days.
