If things continue the way they are going i think it is a possibility.

Its obviously still very early, but there is not any specific republican that stands out as a great candidate yet either.

what do you think?

2010 will be a good testing opportunity. I'd like to see both houses of Congress at least 10% Libertarian or other 3rd party with neither Dem nor Reps having 50%.

I can't think of the perfect third party candidate, though... can anyone give any suggestions?

BJ Lawson ran in the NC 4th district as the pro-peace pro-liberty Ron Paul like Republican, and he's still very young at 34.

They're trying to get Peter Schiff to run in CT, but it won't take:

YouTube - Peter Schiff is asked if he would run for SENATE in 2010

"2012 election a good time for a 3rd party candidate to win???"

Shot answer, no.

Long answer, getting on the ballot in enough states to seriously contend for the presidency is a daunting obstacle, so, for a new "third party" to attempt what has never been successfully done in the history of the country would be next to impossible.

Michael Badnarik, who ran on the Libertarian ticket for President in 2004. I met him in person, and I can honestly say that he's not a radical. In fact, his views are very mainstream on topics like immigration and foreign policy. There are some Libertarians who favor open borders and complete withdraw from international policy (which I personally am highly opposed to). At the same time, however, there needs to be some moderation. Badnarik proposed a keen idea in his campaign: keep the troops in Afghanistan, but remove the troops from Iraq & use them to patrol the U.S./Mexican border for curbing illegal immigration.

It's obvious that things went sour under Bush, and the country is headed into a deeper mess under Obama ... so it seems quite apparent to me that both Dems and Republicans have lost touch. Both major parties want more government intervention, and that is likely the main reason why we're in over our heads. We need LESS government, more personal freedom, and the elimination of the welfare state. Government action is NOT going to jump start the economy. The market will turn itself around eventually ... it's going to take some time, just like with most other recessions/downturns.

Hope not.
That would mean we've had some terrible years leading up to it.

I'm optimistic though, so I'll say it will be a terrible time.
