Based on your theory we should get hit soon and that would give me the right to blame "W".At least when Clinton sent missiles,they were sent to the right country.The next time Al Qaeda hits should we bomb Mexico,or Brazil,maybe Iraq again?If his intelligence is so good,where are the weapons of mass destruction? You're not informed either. Obama bombed a nation (Pakistan) we're not at war with and that didn't attack us about three days into his administration. Now that's a stupid thing to do!
The reason they were so successful was that Clinton allowed the CIA to deteriorate from lack of funding and 25% attrition. Clinton did respond with tomahawk missiles being fired into an empty valley in Afghanistan. After they stopped laughing, Al Qaeda went right back to working on 9/11 that was five years in the making. When Bush took over, he rebuilt the intelligence community that would have been able to discover the 9/11 plot if they were not neglected for eight years. Since then we have been safe. We have a real intelligence presence on the ground in the part of the world where these attacks come from. How long do you think it will take the Obama misadministration to throw it all away? How long until we get hit again?

2) You assume that Bush rebuilt the intelligence community. The fact is that only few people can see the whole picture. Neither of us has access to the real facts. I am curious to know how much things really changed. No, not the declarations and the appointment of an intelligence Czar, but in the field. I am quite skeptic about the profound restructure. Not so much because of Bush, but because of the nature of these secret organizations. They aren't easy to control and quite resistant to change.

A very bad idea to cut the CIA and FBI intelligence. It is possible to have a small government and have a good and well-funded intelligence organization in place.
Clinton made a huge mistake cutting the CIA and FBI.
I thought the Right didn't care what the World thought of the United States (you know, "You're either with us or against us" or something like that). Now that their power has been diminished, now they care about the World's opinion? And what's the matter with Motel6(?)...they leave the light on!!
Actually, we care about those whose opinions matter; our allies, those aligned with our system of government. Those countries have never stopped supporting and admiring us. Japan. Israel. Eastern Europe GB for the most part.
The ones who claimed they didn't respect us anymore, the socialist countries, and the terrorist countries, we never gave a damn about their opinion anyway. Besided that, and as I explained, they respected us; it's just that they were angry we didn't let them get away with crap.
The notion of America losing respect under Bush was always just a partisan sham purveyed by the left...these countries respected us greatly under Bush.
You can tell by how they all rallied to our assistance when we attacked Iraq.

Most of Bin Ladin's supporters are from Pakistan and his own country and we KNOW he is hiding somewhere in Pakistan because they let him in.
I just got back from Brazil where Obama seems to be respected, at least by the people that I met.
